What do you recommend for vnc?

So what do you recommend for vnc? Using KDE 4.3 and krfb is just terrible. Even if I am under the same lan the vnc connection is horrible and takes seconds for anything to even respond to what I click never-mind display. Just want to get everyone's recommendations since there are plenty of alternatives to choose from...

Ohh and I dont want to hear any ssh remarks!!

Are you talking about replacing the VNC server or client or both? I use RealVNC.

Sorry server. It will be accessed via windows based pc's if that should matter at all. I should mention I really just need it during some initial configurations and then as a backup to ssh.

Real VNC is okay. I am not a huge fan of using VNC. I would rather use SSH because I feel it is more secure and I can do everything I need to do at the command line. Typically when I have to use it I setup an ssh tunnel and then tunnel vnc through it that way I have less open listening ports on the box especially if it is accessible from the Internet.

When I need GUI over a network, I use NX.

VNC is like PCAnywhere to NX's RemotelyAnywhere.

Yes, use something based off the NX protocol -- VNC will be slow over a non-LAN speed transport.

Never heard of NX. Will give it a try though. Thanks!
