Re: COD Modern Warefare 2 ................Who's buying?

The OP must be new to PC gaming, raise of hands how many games you have played that you thought "this game is going to be epic!" then a month after release it gets reviewed and people don't like it at all.

AION anyone? :P

Who's buying it for the PC? Is anyone really going to boycott this game?

Seems to me this will be to much of a bad ass game to just not buy because of the lack of dedicated servers.

So stop kidding yourselves and go out and buy a copy!
I was going to buy it at launch, but MP is the main reason I play these games, and a fail MP really knocks it down the list for me. I may still buy it sometime, just because of the singleplayer.

@quatrix---that shouldnt take long. Figure about a month at most.

And most of the COD series has been released on PC first Somnambul33t, and then released as port on console. COD 3 was the only one released on console only. By Treyarch. Which is why it got such bad reviews. COD 5/WaW was released on both PC and consoles at the same time. Again, mix of reviews.

Either way, its just a bad way to take the game:

-8v8/9v9 only MP, whatever one it is=suck
-NO DEDICATED SERVERS for low pings/equality over the internet
-Taking out things like lean to make the game easier for console to run and play for kiddies even though its M rated and for a reason
-Short SP game experience
-Charging console price for PC game; This one could be a big one. Make other developers think that they can do it too
-No mod support with SDK tools to further the life OF the game
-Tactical Nuke for 25 kills in MP. Overpowered much? With only 8v8 thats going to take a while since everyone will camp for it

Just look at how much uproar they have created by doing this. How many threads on how many forums have you seen and read complaining about what they have done? Squeaky wheel gets the grease as the saying goes. Hopefully they fix this whole mess in the first patch. Then they may get sales of the game. Till then...

I might buy it when it hits the bargain bin, or when I have nothing else better to do. Otherwise, I'm not really moved to drop money on a over-glorified online sniper camp-off.

Wouldn't dream of buying the PC version at any rate though.

So why am I going to purchase this game?
Becuase I enjoyed COD4 alot.
Becuase the graphics and gameplay are outstanding.
Becuase I am burned out on COD4/5 and I need something fresh.
As far as I am concerned though, Battlefield Bad Company 2 will be my next main game to play, however with it coming out next year, I need something to hold me over. Yes it will have Dedicated Server support. Besides one of the producers is a good friend of mine.

I do agree that the $60 price tag is going to push the other publishers to hit a new pricing ceiling becuase someone did it 1st. However I want to say, that they jacked the price up because they had an idea that dedicated support would cost them PC sales.

I also believe that the IWNET system will utterly fail.

Re: COD Modern Warefare 2 ................Who's buying?

I most definitely will not be purchasing it, and have encouraged my community members to either not buy it or cancel their pre orders. Also there is a petition going around. »www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/···dedis4mw Currently 180,414 have signed it.

The only good reason to implement matchmaking with no dedicated instances is if this were a Cross platform release imho.

Infinity Ward's Robert "FourZeroTwo" Bowling writes;
"The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don't have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it."

First off, MW2 is supposed to be VAC2 instead of PunkBuster. Everyone knows VAC2 enabled servers is completely free of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters (sarcasm).

Not having to rely on the server admins? Great, now I can be sexually harassed by a 14 year old kid screaming profanity into his mic while the host is afk on a bio break. But at least I don’t need to setup Big Brother Bot any longer and offer community ban/complaint lists to help keep the punk free servers, “Punk Free”.

The incentive to playing a Console vs. PC version is control. Do people more prefer having being restricted to play only on a pure instance or the ability to select if they want pure and modified like Steam already offers with filters and tags?

I think they are just lazy and tired of supporting the dedicated server community. Besides its one less department to pay if there is no linux/windows server support.

I hope you are ready to shell out the subscription fee when they decide IWnet should be a subscription service. IMHO, it's not a matter of "if, but "when".

I had a pre-order for this the day it released but canceled as soon as I learned about the DS issue.

I haven't played a P2P game on the PC before but from what I heard the experience isn't all that grand.

They took away the choice of servers imo this is the reason COD4 was so great.
You got to know players and clans on the game and could play with who you want to.
The clans also made the game fun (and still do) by removing anyone who was disruptive. Cheating on the other hand, I have yet to run into a cheater since MOHAA.

I may rent it for my PS3 to play the SP but other than that, IW ain't getting a cent from me and this is coming from someone who has COD2, COD4 and COD5 on the PC the day they came out.

Gues they don't give a shit about thier already established fan base to pull this.

The only question I have that would make or break me getting this game on PC is... what kind of DRM does it have (on disc)?

I've found that a lot of times recently, it isn't so much just whether or not my computer can handle it. But whether the copy-protection is going to be a hassle to deal with.

This is true, I hate that as well. But is $10 more really going to make or break someone?
Idk about others, but for me yes it is. I hate paying 50 nevermind what they are asking codmw2. Anyone else remember how SHORT the first one was?
Short? Maybe. But so what?

IW chose quality over quantity on the campaign. Even though I had it on 360, I still find myself regretting ever getting rid of it in the first place.

It has the DRM called steam.

The disc is nothing but a steam game installer for those who don't want to download the whole game.

Re: COD Modern Warefare[sp] 2 ................Who's buying?

I wasn't really excited about the first one, I only bought it because everyone was playing it at LAN parties. I wasn't much excited about mw2, now I'm not buying it on principle.

I'll be living in the Borderlands this winter. Once I get done there, I might check myself into Arkham Asylum. Once Starcraft 2 starts to hit (in a year-ish), I won't be buying anything for some time.

Ok, so which game would you think can take its place? Is there anything out there similar that supports ded servers?
Only game that can take its place in the MP would would be COD4 or World At War. They have a good MP setup.

COD4/MW1 is a good replacement.

Not buying it. And yes, no DS support and $10 bucks more means that much to me. I'm not supporting a game company that throws the console scraps to the PC gamers. Consoles are for casual gamers.

Mark my words, the online community for this game will die fast.

Not to mention I have issues with COD:WaW that already made me sketchy about buying this game.

Definitely check yourself into Arkham Asylum. You won't regret it.
