| Tier Upgrades anytime soon?
I'm gonna be getting back into online gaming with the release of the new call of duty and am considering moving back to Boost for the next few months.
But my question, as seen in the title, is whether anyone has info on an upgrade across the whole OOL service? Standard OOL has been at 15/2 for quite some time now, and with FIOS providing 15/5 and 25/15 i'd like for CV to start competing a bit. |

How is that not competing? |

you do not need Boost for online gaming. regular OOL has more than enough bandwidth for every multiplayer game out there.
PHAT PIPE means nothing if your online game's traffic is a trickle. low latency/fast response is what's important. ool and boost do no affect your lately unless your lince gets close to saturation. -- Check out my awesome city of MxxTopia »mxxtopia.myminicity.com/ind or »mxxtopia.myminicity.com (the more people visit, the bigger it is) |

| reply to max pl If you want quality but speeds don't matter get the lower tier with FIOS and its cheaper than BOOST and better. I have BOOST and FIOS and quality wise I notice a lot less lag with FIOS than with OOL and you always get your speed with FIOS.
Isn't boost $65 a month with just internet only ? I pay $70 for 25/15 and get 26/30 so its worth it if you use it so it depends on what you want and need for your choice in service. |

| reply to max pl constant 5mb up with Boost, which is more than enough to eliminate any lag issues being caused on your end.
online gaming only requires about 700mbps transfer speed(both ways) problem is DLS and Cable both use Ethernet cables so theres no way to void out the older technology like they did when the newer consoles came out without the phonejack inputs for dialup which PS2 and Xbox's had.
so you get a bunch of people with DSL or just really bad cable isp's who either have the bare minimum of what would be required to host/join an online multiplayer game or their bandwidth is badly managed on their end with multiple computers browsing the net at the same time, ect..
as you see DSL is right at the bare minimum of required upload speeds

so any lag you get with the 15/2(considering you properly administer your home network) wont be on your end, but more overhead can never hurt an its only 9-10 bucks for boost anyways.
i really hope when the next gen of consoles come out they include a bandwidth monitor that auto detects your speed an only allows those that pass to join the lobby. |

I hardly if ever get above that during the evening hours.
I would say that is worse. |

| Service depends on where you live.
FIOS is more consistent but if you live in a place where OOL service is good like I do, OOL is a better deal.
Boost also gives you the ability to open port 80 for your web server.... something that makes it worth the money for me because I was able to dump my hosting service. |

1 edit | reply to xocsucram You mean 700 kbps but also it doesn't matter if you have 5 mb up or down its the quality of the network and route you take and FIOS for me is way better than my OOL anyday.
Fios has port 80 open on residential accounts now too |

Just because I can and I want 2 incase 1 goes down somehow and I was just saying what experience I have with both services. Any thing wrong with that ? |

| God bless you but it sure seems like a waste of money to have close to 100% internet coverage. Do you get that many outages? I can't recall having an outage for years and that was because a truck took down my line from the pole. I do know though people that work from their homes and they really do need backup, usually a DSL though for that purpose. |

| When there is 4 to 6 people using the internet at once it can get slower so I have another 1 ready and also yes I had some issues where 1 was down and lighting killed some equipment 2 times and another time both were down so yep there is a need for it. |

or does he also have a satellite internet connection with a diesel powered generator as well? lol |

| reply to max pl first off, get a good router (wireless n), I dont care if it cost you $200.00 a year ago, it's old and outdated. 2nd if you want top speed do not use a router it cuts into the speed. 3rd like xocsucram said, you dont need much for online gaming unless its world of warcarft. |
