Rifleman posted : The old ones are worth more--pre 1964. 300 sound right for canada anyways. There's a website that lets you enter the serial number to get it dated.
Winchester doesn't make guns anymore so value will only increase.

waldoooo posted : gunbroker.com and other sites is a good way to do your own research. A friend of mine just inherited a few guns and took an early colt ar-15 to his local gunsmith in NV, the guy explained how the old ones are not as valuable because they aren't as accurate as the newer guns and he would give him $600 or $800 for it. My friend decided to hold off and it would up being one of the first ones ever offered to the public and sold for over $3000.

Can't say the dealer tried to rip him off, maybe even he didn't know the real value but definitely look into it for yourself

tahoejeff posted : Thanks for all the answers.
It has a Bushnell 4x32 scope. There's no rust, but there are two small scratches on the barrel.
I looked on gunbroker.com and got some good ideas what they are selling for.
The serial number is 4331xxx, which appears to be from mid to late 70's. I bought it used around 1986, and have probably fired 25 rounds in that time.
I emailed a local gun dealer I found on gunbroker, to ask about consignment sales.
He said I'd probably get $200-$400 for it.
--
The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth

lagged posted : 300 bucks is in the right ballpark.

What kind of scope? How many rounds down the pipe?

I imagine a gun shop will give you around 200 bucks for a 30/30, you are much better off selling it privately.

Check gunbroker, gunsamerica, or a local firearm forum for value or avenues to sell it.
--
tight lines and screaming reels

tahoejeff posted : I've given up deer hunting and want to sell my rifle. There is a guy coming next week to look at it, and I have no idea what it is worth.
I asked an avid hunter at work, and after describing it he guessed around $300

It's a Winchester Model 94 30-30 with a scope, sling, and case.
I might take a couple pictures of it this weekend, which I'm sure would give you a better idea of value, but I'm just looking for a general guess. It seems in good shape. Maybe the stock could use refinishing.
I normally use ebay and craigslist to get prices for similar items, but both do not allow gun sales.
--
The Geek Shall Inherit the Earth
