1 edit | weird new message popped up on my TV..
I didn't have to to give it a good look, but it was a Set top box message (iGuide, normal bar at the bottom of the screen) asking something like "Do you want to know more about RedZone?" and had a button saying "Yes, please call us" and an "X". By the time I found the remote, the message went away..
This is the first time I see such message. -- www.litman.com |

Was there a commercial airing about redzone / football at the same time? Interactive ads are the wave of the future eh. -- Tech at the Beach. I speak for myself, not my employer. |

| Yes, it looked like the "Request for Information", but in the default iGuide colors.
I also checked right away to see if I got A28 version of the software, but it still shows A25.. -- www.litman.com |

I noticed that I can now order HSN products via my remote control now on the HSN channel. I am in in Montgomery County, PA and on A25 guide. |

| reply to lordie Good lord, that's AWFUL. Now we have popups for ads?
It's so funny and sad that Comcast actually thinks this benefits consumers and that people want crap like this in advertisements, when all it does is simply benefit their coffers.
LOL at this friendly little disclaimer: "By requesting more information about the offer, you agree that the advertiser may call your home telephone number to discuss details about the offer and advertisers other products and services, and to confirm your order."
So you accidentally click yes and you have given the green light for telemarkers. terrible |

1 edit | reply to ak3883 From looking at the images on the link, it looks as though you would have to double opt in (as in press OK/Select twice) while the overlay was on the screen.
It's not likely that you would do this by mistake.
And I believe (and hope) that the call permission granted would be for that one time use only.
cypherstream - I think voting and polling applications are next. It would seem to leverage the same structure and back office. |

| So these EBIF applications must be triggered by in stream messages. I wonder if that's all part of the MPEG Transport Stream. If that's the case, the EBIF triggers would also be recorded on DVR content (provided the DVR does not remux to MPEG4, which AFAIK none do at this point).
So playing back a recording containing one of these ad's, do you still see the popup? What about fast forwarding over the ad? |
