Phone keeps lighting up/resetting

I just switched to viatalk, using the linksys box they ship and have it plugged into my wall so all of the phones in my house will be using viatalk. (Yes, I unplugged from the telephone company first, to make sure I didn't damage any hardware.)

I only have one phone plugged in: a Motorola L402C wired base with wireless handset:

Unfortunately since I switched to viatalk, the phone backlight turns on about once per minute and resets the time to something weird. It also prevents us from programming the phone because in the middle of doing anything it resets back to the home screen. (that includes scrolling through the caller ID and deleting missed calls)

I've also noticed that every call is a missed call. Even ones I answer.

I'm still sticking with viatalk, but I have to admit it would be awesome to figure out what is causing this.

I'm up for tinkering with the linksys box if I need to. I'm very comfortable with networking, just a little new to VOIP.

Get the admin password for the ATA. Try turning off VMWI Serv. Its under the Line 1 tab.

Reason behind this I have a very old stand alone callerid box. That setting got turned on and it would light up like a Christmas tree about every minute or two. The box would say "Message waiting" if I indeed had a voicemail at Viatalk but it was highly distracting. Didn't have any effect on my newer Panasonic multiheadset phones.

Does it behave the same way with the phone plugged Directly into the ATA?

If testing changes turn off provisioning or Viatalk well reset the ATA to its defaults every hour or so. Once you have a working config you can submit your changes via trouble ticket and they will update your config.

Dicurrey is right about VMWI. Turning that off usually stops this from happening. It might be more convenient to call support in the morning or put in a ticket to have this turned off instead of getting the admin pass and doing it yourself, but it's up to you. Goodnight.

awesome, thanks for the tips!

I'll probably go through with this so I can learn how the system works. (I'm all about poking around the admin screens on the ATA... I've been tempted to turn my Linksys NSLU2 into an Asterisk server now that I'm using VOIP... but will probably wait until I understand it a bit better.)

I solved this by setting the VMWI refresh rate to 0. I still get notifications of voicemail, but they are only sent upon reregistrations.
