PCI-x Sata II Raid card.

I'm trying to turn a Dell Precision 650 Workstation into a home server. The existing SCSI drives will be for the host o/s. I've got 2 seagate 1.5 tb sata drives that I'd like to mirror across for redundant storage.

I'm looking to get a pci-x sata raid card, not fakeraid, a true hardware raid. From what I can tell, this Dell has a pci-x 1.0 100 mhz slot.

I believe that most of the cards I've looked at ex: LSI MegaRAID SATA 300-8X, won't work because it requires a 5 volt 133 mhz slot.

Anyone know if these cards are backwards compatible? If not, any suggestions on what card to buy?

Thanks in advance.

PCI-X is required to be 3.3V compatible.

BTW: All the Dell PERC (RAID) cards are made by LSI.

I never been impressed with LSI cards, I'd recommend Arcea/Tekram, or a recent Adaptec.

Being on a budget, I went ahead and ordered the lsi megaraid 300-8x for $80. It should be here in a few days, I'll let you know how it works out.

Hopefully these 1.5tb Seagates are good. I've read a ton of bad reviews on them. I think the latest firmware fixes some issues they originally had.

Thanks for your input.

Got the card installed, works fine. Only issue was I couldn't boot off of the onboard lsi scsi controller. So I had to scrap my original plan and put everything on the sata drives.

Thanks for the help!
