1 edit | [Servers] Bridged NICs = load balance?
I have two NIC cards in my Poweredge 4600. One 10/100 and the other 10/100/1000.
I bridged the two cards just for the hell of it. The network bridge reports a connection speed of 217.0 Gbps and reports a DHCP assigned IP address from the DHCP server whereas each individual NIC does not have the IP information listed (support tab is grayed out).
Does this mean that with both NIC plugged into the same switch it is passing traffic over both cards?
How should I be reading this bridge status? -- "I have measured out my life with coffee spoons..." - T.S Eliot "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence." - Publilius Syrus Ma blog: »www.johndball.com |

| reply to exocet_cm IF you set them up in a port bond (or port team), you can plug them into a managed switch that has port-channel or other 802.3ad capabilities. One the switch it'll show up as 1 interface to your server. On your PowerEdge, it would depend on the OS on how it shows up |

@astound.net | reply to exocet_cm Teaming a NIC which is 1/10th of its cousin's bandwidth does not make sense. If ur just doing this just for fun and exercise, go4rit. |

| reply to exocet_cm I found my extra Intel 10/100/1000 NIC and added it to this server giving me: 1x 10/100 2x 10/100/1000
Using the Broadcom Advanced Control Suite (since one of the 1000 cards is a Broadcom), I was able to very easily team the two 1000 NICs together and set the 100 NIC as a failover if both 1000 NICs crashed.
The BACS suite easily managed both the Intel NICs in the server without issue and everything took less than 2 minutes to configure.
