What would really sell me is rsync capability. Right now I rsync my photos to a 4 TB NAS and a 4 TB eSATA enclosure. Being able to rsync would make things a lot nicer.

Still, there's an OS X client so I'm going to shove up my couple terabytes of photos, for sure on a trial account.

You could add a backup Windows server to your network, perhaps in a VM and use that to sync. The fees for hard drive platter recovery from some companies range upwards of 3-5K in some instances... And that price is well worth it for me. I can't afford it, but I'd pay it if I had to. At the price of Backblaze, it's peanuts to have a last second "oh shit" plan.

Gotta say so far I'm impressed. I do have the feeling that I'm being slightly throttled on my speed to you guys, but then again I am trying to push a full TB through. I'll get my machine on a 100meg fiber line and give it a test hehehe :)

But yep so far I'm impressed, the only thing I don't like is the fact that you guys don't support server stuff or network drives to be sent as what I want to back up is on a NAS, so I've had to kludge it a little to get it to work.

OK and one thing you don't mention is it REDUNDANT back up or single file copy. IE severe server/drive failure is everthing gone or is there redundancy.

Spec file above is a bit vague on that saying initially one copy of data, but multiples of changing files, but still does say if even those are reduntant or just multiple copys in a non redundant environment.

I have over 50GB up there currently. As far as I know, there are no limitations on what they will back up. You just right click on a folder and tell it to back up, and away it goes. Anytime something is added to that folder, it gets backed up.

I've had no issues with it thus far, over two years of use.

As I stated in another thread, I'm using Backblaze as an additonal backup. It doesn't bother me that they don't backup the .ISO files, but not backing up the .EXE files caused me to do a workaround. Generally it doesn't matter to me, since the source code files I've written in Pascal do get backed up (so I can recompile them again if necessary). I still like to back up their .EXE versions. So I simply rename the extension on copies of .exe files I want backed up -- works for me. (Probably not necessary, but I like to do it.) :hmm:

But I decided today to take the plunge after I lost a RAID controller and nearly hosed 3TB of data. Got everything back as I had a mirrored copy, but gave enough of a scare that this little insurance policy cost is more than worth it. I bought the 2 year package at something like 3.xx a month for a total of ~90someodd$.

So far I like what I see. The client is simple and very lightweight, has settings for advanced users (Although I'm sure it could be more advanced, it does what I need it to)

My only single gripe is they have a couple types of files they don't support, namely .ISO files. While no biggie for me, it's still something I wasn't expecting until it was too late.

So far I'm very impressed...
And at 3TB of data, I'm sure to give it a run for its money :)

The client is geared towards the non-techie, as it defaults to pulling over most of your directories, so it takes a little time to tweak it by excluding directories you don't want to backup. (ex: I don't need to backup anything in the windows My Games folder) It would be great if they made an "advanced" version of the client where it starts by backing up nothing and you specifically tell it which folders to backup - instead of telling it what to NOT backup - but for the price and the fact it's automatic (and they store changed files) - I couldn't be happier with it.

Do the math on it, and these guys have the scalability to basically do whatever they want provided they have the pipes to truck it in.

I've never seen anything as well done as this asides from Google's own server builds... and I dare compare them as following the same innovative footsteps.

I'm seriously asking (hopefully they check this post again) if these pods are commercially available. Similar to the Google appliances, these pods could have a massive use.

Now, the ultimate question, while you do state that it is actually unlimited, what about bandwidth caps? Almost ALL online backup solutions start capping your upload and download speeds after you hit a certain number, do you?

Awesome stuff there... And so much so I'm tempted to ask, where do I get one of these pods and will you ever make them commercially available? Such a thing would blow most JBOD, RAID, NAS, SAS units out of the water.

I know I'd be first on the purchasing list for some of this stuff :)
