Also out here Verizon has taken a number of price increases on their services including data which puts them on par with cable competitors.
Speed IMO is more about a PR game; being able to say you have the fastest service even though most people don't give a crap. Looking at DSLR/Archive shows that FiOS subs stick for the most part to the cheapest tiers. Even when FiOS offered the 5/2, it got the bulk of subscribers, again using DSLR/Archive as a guide.
And so long as their checks to Congress clear, they will continue to grow. | |

kudos:2 | The thing is that if price was king Comcast would have less internet customers due to DSL offerings. Comcast broadband is rather expensive, but it's a better product than the typical DSL offering, hence it gets customers. | |

And when did we see the telco's record adds, so much that they started running out of capacity at the CO...when they pushed the dirt cheap DSL deals.
As it stands now, triple play internet price around here (with TWC) is $30/mo. Verizon's 2 year deal is $18+ junk fees and 1 year deal is $20+ junk fees. I don't know about Time Warner, but my provider Cox offers cheap cable HSI "Economy tier" for $20 range and a "value" tier at $29, same as Verizon DSL.
But then with either the customer looks as what discounts on phone and video would lose by moving away from triple play. With triple play you get the regular tier for the same $29.
As far as triple play, Verizon charges the same $100/mo that cable does so Verizon isn't pushing a price advantage and it's a price advantage that gives a provider the big edge; more so that speed. | |

Though on the low end you get price-conscious buyers by offering a $20-a-month internet tier.
Comcast actually has no such tier; 1/384 cable costs $35 per month though it's cheaper if you add cable and/or voice service.
TWC does in fact also offer a $20 plan. 768 kbps down, 128 kbps u. Verizon absolutely steamrolls that with 1 Mbps down and 384 kbps up...if Verizon offers the DSL tier in any given location. As an added bonus, VZ is giving six months away on a year service contract. now THAT's snazzy. | |

| Re: Price is king, not speed and triple play gets adds It really depends. Most of the people I know with Comcast hasve the 12/2 tier. They could save $20 but the speed decrease is dramatic. Back home in Texas, most of the people I know have TWC's $40 backage. It's twice the price of their $20 package, but nearly 10x the speed.
The folks I know with Qwest DSL spent the extra $5-$7 per month to get their speed above 1.5 Mbps. I could go on.
My point here is that a large number of people will pay for upper-tier service, otherwise providers wouldn't be competing on speed and releasing higher price points to match. I'll agree with you that most NEW customers come in at the bottom of the pricing range, however customers switching from one provider to another have both performance and value in mind. | |

| | most of the planes are starter only in chiagoland that means no sci-fi for you and in some parts no speed. other comcast areas have them both in starter / analog cable.
also there is the $6-$20 per tv with HD at $7-$10 per tv and HD dvr at $15-$20. Some deals have free HD and or FREE HD / DVR for a shout time but that is only for 1 box.
The DTA's do not get the full stater line as well.
and the next level up is the same cost as direct tv HD dvr vs a sd only box with comcarp at about the same price. and WHY DO NEED THE SPORTS PACK FOR fox movie channel on comcast? | |
