NetFixer : A couple of years ago when I ported two Vonage numbers to AT&T CallVantage, my Vonage accounts were also automatically closed when the port process was completed.

However, even though my accounts were "closed"* and the numbers were ported, Vonage still kept those numbers in their internal database as unassigned numbers. As a result, if a Vonage customer called those numbers they would get a "not in service" announcement. I found this out because a Vonage customer who had been trying to call me eventually called my cell phone and told me this was happening. It took several emails and calls to Vonage support to get that problem resolved. I suspect that if this had not been caught early, that eventually Vonage would have assigned those numbers to another customer resulting in major problems for everyone concerned.

* Actually the accounts were not really closed, they were only marked as inactive. I can still access those "closed" accounts now and see old billing and call history.
--
History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.
-- Dwight D.
