I just started using the Rogers HSPA+ Rocket Stick, according to Rogers's website, the download speeds can be up to 21.6 Mbps but when I use it in the downtown area of Coquitlam, BC, Canada, the download speed is about 2 to 3.5 Mbps. This is not a rural area and I am very disappointed that the download speed is so slow. I also use shaw high speed internet for internet connection at home in the same location in Coquitlam and the speed is a lot faster when I use shaw high speed cable internet, the download speed in the same location is more than 15 Mbps. May I ask if any users of Rogers HSPA+ Rocket Stick in the greater Vancouver area can post their speedtest result here? I use www.speedtest.net to do the speed test for both Rogers and Shaw connection. |

| My bet is that Vancouver area has a very high rate of smartphones/rocket sticks, and bandwidth is shared on cell towers. More users, slower speeds...
As a comparison, I'm in Toronto, and I have an iPhone 3GS which is 7.2MBPS HSPA, and in Toronto I get speeds between 2-3mbps on average, but when I go to my cottage, which is about 200KM north of Toronto, I get 4-6mbps when tethered to my laptop.
BTW, these advertised "up to" speeds are very theoretical. If you're indoors, you'll never get anywhere near it. Even outdoors, you will probably need to have a good line of sight to the tower and be free of any obstructions. -- 1-for-October. (1-7-4) And now, back to your regularly scheduled losing. |

1 edit | Thanks for your reply. I am very disappointed at Rogers because I have higher expectation on them because of their advertisement. I am not disappointed at Shaw at all because I know what I will get. For Shaw cable connection, I have the plan named High-Speed Extreme and according to Shaw's website, download speed is up to 15 Mbps download speed for this plan. It exceeds my expectations. I am sure there're many happy Shaw customers because they get more than they pay for. Unfortunately I cannot use Shaw cable connection if I am not at home. |

| reply to hondacbr Totally understandable but if Rogers says that the download speeds can be up to 21.6 Mbps, I never expect when I use mine in reality, the download speed is only about 2 to 3.5 Mbps. It's not even 1/4 of the speed of 21.6 Mbps. The difference is way too dramatic. |

@rogers.com | reply to hondacbr sounds like you're getting an HSPA connection, not an HSPA+, is your area HSPA+ ready? |

| reply to hondacbr i have an hspa+ rocket stick and just a plain ol ordinary HSPA one. when your connected to a Tower, or an RNC that supports HSPA+, your connection manager will show HSPA+, if not, your getting just HSPA speeds and your towers have not been upgraded. Solution? Move to another area and try again or WAIT till your area gets hit with the upgrade. -- Happiness is like peeing your pants... Everyone can see it, but only you can feel its Warmth!! |

2 edits | reply to hondacbr Thanks for all the replies. When I use the Rogers HSPA+ Rocket Stick in Coquitlam, BC, and when I go to connection manager, I see that the HSPA+ text appears for a few seconds and then changes back to HSPA. I Just called Rogers and was informed that HSPA+ is available for Vancouver area only. That means, when I am in Coquitlam or other cities outside of Vancouver, I will likely not get HSPA+. That explains why the speed is so slow. Rogers should emphasize on their advertising campaigns that HSPA+ is available for Vancouver only (not all Greater Vancouver area) for now. |

| reply to hondacbr if the hspa+ changes back to HSPA without the plus, then your inbetween two towers, one is an HSPA and another is an HSPA+ so your phone i mean rocket stick is bouncing between two SGSN's and thus bad speeds. -- Happiness is like peeing your pants...
