MattAll noise, no signal.Premium join:2003-07-20 Jamestown, NC kudos:12 1 edit | Same old same old That is what you have to pay for tethering now. $45 + $15 = $60. Looks like they want to keep that same price point. I don't understand why they insist on charging more for the same data usage. If I can use 5GB on my phone, or 5GB between my phone and tethering, why do they care?
They are also charging $45 for the data plan rather than $30 if you are an Activesync user, so I wonder if they will now be penalized $15 more than you currently have to pay to tether? $75 instead of $60? |

 | Simple enough. If you actually use anything like 5GB on the phone, they're going to accuse you of tethering and move you (retroactively) to the higher-priced plan. |

A friend (coincidentally) posted the same thing of my Facebook page yesterday too. |

The extra 15 bucks is for business customers who are already paying that in the first place. |

I'm not quite sure I understand that? My friend (and I did as well) has a Verizon phone in his name, a personal phone, and is being charges $45 for data. When he asked if he could reduce to the $30 a month plan, they said no because he accesses an Exchange server. |

| reply to fAcEtIOUs Exactly...
If I get an android and it has the ABILITY to tether then thats why I bought the phone for its features. I shouldnt have to pay a monthly fee for a feature of the phone unless it requires verizon to actively maintain it.
Data is data and the plans should be written in stone... 30 bucks for 5GB... 40 for 10GB etc... |

Except with Blackberries Verizon or whoever your carrier is has to register your phone's PIN with RIM for BES access to work. That how they get away with charging more for BES/Exchange connectivity.
With other phones they just connect to the Net and go directly to their mail server--it's not like Verizon is filtering packets looking for Exchange usage. There's no need to pay anything extra and if you're a corporate customers then your company is paying for it anyway so what do you really care? -- »aiossalaw.com |

If you are please tell me how and I'll gladly pay for the phone and ETF. I'm a BES admin and I'd love to know how to circumvent the wireless carriers ability to turn BES access on/off. -- »aiossalaw.com |

You only need to have the correct data plan and have access enabled once. Verizon doesn't do anything with the PIN. We've swapped numerous phones and we don't have to call Verizon to give them the new PIN, I just issue a new activation code and the phone handles everything else.
There is a possibly that they somehow know what the PIN is when we swap phones, but we swap phones through their web portal so unless they have some sort of IEMI/ESN to PIN database that automatically registers the new PIN with RIM, they're not updating anything. |

 | reply to Matt @Matt, more like $30 data plan, $30 tethering plan on top of the data plan, and an extra $15 to use exchange...30+30+15=$75 for just data services and that doesn't include voice...no thanks, Verizon is the biggest rip off wireless industry wise. |
|
 | reply to Matt Wrong, you need to have the BES $45 plan. I have had to call the carrier numerous times to with the user on the phone to have their plan upgraded to make EA work. |
