Look

[sarcasm]

Everyone needs to understand that using data through your phone is clearly different then using data through a laptop or whatever. See these data bits that are used when tethering cost Carriers extra so they must pass the expense onto us the customer to the tune of $30.00 dollars..

Personally I think this is a killer deal and I'm not sure why people have a problem paying this!!

Re: Look

If you think about it that is probably why Verizon turned Apple down. An iPhone becomes an iTouch it you limit it with caps. Verizon didn't want to take a network hit with iPhones selling like crazy and users out there hogging up the data lines. If Apple went to Verizon again there you will see the iPhone on unlimited use.

I don't agree with the pricing either. But to be fair, a user who tethers will likely use much more data at a much faster rate than a normal smartphone data user.

Not always.

I enjoy tethering very rarely when I travel ... about twice a year, or in a pinch when my broadband line goes out. When I do tether, I'm usually just browsing a couple websites or checking email. Stuff that's not as convenient to do on the phone.

Now, on the phone, I use streaming radio, update applications, watch youtube, etc. I use data a lot more through the phone itself.

Re: Look

I'm the exact opposite. If I tether for 2 hours, I've used almost 1 gig of data from normal surfing of message boards, and watching HD videos on Youtube. It takes me almost a week to use 1 gig without tethering, and that includes, constant XM streaming, and Youtube videos being watched through the mobile application.

Fair?

Isn't it fair enough that theres a 5gig data limit? I mean if I go over the 5gigs and get charged overages isn't that fair enough?

I just don't see the relevance in how I got there.

I dunno to me its like my land line phone company telling me that if I am going to use a wired phone then its $20.00 a month but if I want to connect a wireless phone to my wall then its an extra $30 because they feel I will talk on the phone more since its a cordless phone.

I'm sure someone could come up with a better analogy but hey I'm not trying to argue with you or anything I just personally don't think its fair so I would never pay to tether myself.
