| Weil-Mclain Boiler Problem
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to diagnose a problem. My grandmother's oil-fired boiler keeping igniting and then losing the flame. I can tell because of the low hum made when the flame is going. Also, the exhaust vent keeps opening and closing each time the flame goes out. She is a little stubborn and doesn't think anything is wrong. If I had it my way, a boiler tech would be on his way right now to check it out. Any ideas on what it might be and if it is dangerous? I've turned off the boiler via the emergency switch. Any information would be extremely helpful.
Best, Peter |

| if it has an oil filter, turn off the oil before the filter, and replace the element, on the side of the pump, there are 4 bolts, under that cover there is a metal screen filter, clean that, then there should be 2 screws to remove on the ignition transformer to swing it back to access the nozzle and photocell, clean the photocell, then disconnect the oil line from the nozzle tube, remove the ring on that, then remove the nozzle tube, at the end of that is the nozzle, change that for a new one of the same type. |

| reply to mozartklar i should have mentioned, after doing this, the pump will have to be purged of air, to do that, on the pump is a little fitting with nothing attached to it, loosen that up about a half turn, then put a jar under it to catch oil, then start the boiler,(you may have to push the red reset button) wait until an air free oil stream comes out, then close the fitting, the boiler will start, don't be alarmed.. and that's it.. |

| reply to mozartklar A malfunctioning burner wastes oil and can be a safety hazard due to an accumulation of unburned fuel which can ignite violently.
You may touch the reset button only once, if it goes out a second time, get the oil company tech out ASAP.

| Your boiler definitely needs serviced.
The nozzle and spark electrodes should be checked and cleaned yearly, and changed every 2-3 years. If its been that long since she had someone out, its time.
You really dont want a late ignition due to excessive oil in the chamber, she`ll shit herself lol..
Call a tech asap, or she`ll regret it.
-j -- if it aint broke, tweak it!! currently on FiOS (kick aZZ!) |
