| [help] Best Domain backordering service?
I am part of a non-profit org and when we were first getting started, our domain was registered by a member of our group, but registered in his own name.
Now he wants nothing to do with the group, and refuses to hand over the domain... I even offered him $1k for it.
Anyway, this guy is an idiot and I'm sure he doesnt realize he's set to expire this month, and I want to be sure that I get the domain in January when the expiration process is over.
So what is the best domain backorder service to use? -- I'm tired of killing stupid people just trying to do my job and go home! |

I think you can set up watches on places like GoDaddy. |

| reply to burner50 If you offered him $1,000 for it, and he declined, I would ASSUME he wants to keep it for something else. Otherwise, why would he turn down some quick cash? -- »vivicalhosting.com - Reliable, and very affordable web hosting, VPS, and Dedicated solutions.

| reply to drew said by drew :$1k for a non-profit domain name? Really? Eck... Our organization works hand in hand with many govt agencies, and going through and re-doing all of our MOU's and SOU's and SOP's with these served agencies is my last option.
I think he refused the 1k because he knows we have more and he wants the entire bank account (part of the reason he is no longer with us... a little thing about profiting from a non profit status... but the money is for equipment owned by the org. He doesnt get that and wanted a check cut for his little side project.) -- I'm tired of killing stupid people just trying to do my job and go home! |

1 edit | reply to burner50 So you are banking on the fact that he wont renew the domain?

I did a quick review on domain 'sniping' services, and they all seem to be hit and miss, sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't, and more often then not, you don't get it with these programs, if others are also trying to snipe it. |

| reply to burner50 It might be worth pursuing the legal avenue. If you have some documentation and can prove your organization actually owned the domain you have a good chance of getting it back. I've done this before and won, it also depends on the registrar, some are much easier to persuade. -- Broadline Networks Inc. |

| reply to burner50 Yeah, it can't hurt to contact godaddy, and explain the situation. It will really help if you've got documentation, as twizlar said. -- »vivicalhosting.com - Reliable, and very affordable web hosting, VPS, and Dedicated solutions.

| reply to burner50 I'd recommend snapnames.com but its an open auction style so that could be dangerous.
I've backordered 2 domains through them and they were successful at grabbing the domains for me. Godaddy checks if a domain is available 2 times a day whereas I think snapnames checks every minute or so via different registrars it has contracts with.
If the domain is CURRENTLY with Godaddy, the Godaddy backorder is the best choice since it will never get released to the wild. |
