KoolMoe posted : I need to test my 1st gen Mac Mini with the latest browsers/Flash players... I've read a good bit about this horrible Flash performance on the Mac. I'd like to see it.

We build Flash-based applications daily, some pretty basic, some pretty advanced. 95% of our deliveries are for Windows and we've yet to have any complaints about performance.
I'm hoping that's due to good programming!

I've sure seen random Flash apps and such things that have slowed down my machine (Athlon X2 Dual 5000+, 2.61ghz, 3gb ram) but not many at all. I watch online shows (ABC, NBC, etc) weekly with no problem, all while 'multitasking' with other browser windows, apps, email, etc.

Flash isn't awesome and Silverlight has advantages of being newer and likely a bit 'tighter', but Flash is far from dead and I personally like it as a platform a lot.

I do hope Adobe can work with it and make it more robust and dependable.
KM
--
Don't Lie - Be Kind - Realize your Potential

I would say we are at the Windows 95/98 stage if you will where stuff kind of works and it looks neat, but the tech isn't there yet.

But, I would like to argue that is really the behavior of any OS, including the iPhone. Unless of course, the iPhone runs all applications in a sandbox and/or has garbage collection built into complication. If it does, then of course there would hardly be any memory leaks, but it could make the applications slower. However, with that model they may as well just have done themselves a favor and made the OS Java based like the Android. But I doubt the iPhone complier has garbage collection built in. The only environment that I know that has GC built in is managed code written with the .Net Framework. I could be wrong, anyone care to verify or disprove?

Which, to be honest, makes me very hard to believe that your blackberry screwed up due to a software bug because the blackberry has a Java environment which we know and love to be VM based. So, then we could argue that was a hardware issue and not a software one.

System was AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 1.5 gigs RAM. Radeon X1950 PRO. CPU was not struggling, even despite Flash Linux version being inferior enough for me to net faster performance from Windoze flash under wine on some machines(not kidding).
