The problem is that there are very few Internet sites that can support the FiOS available speeds. I was able to download the whole XP SP-3 ISO (350+ MB) in just a few minutes because Microsoft's site supported the speed (and was done at an off hour so it wasn't overly busy). You are correct, the limitation is on the greater "internet" side more so than at your home. However, the majority of consumer grade hardware (Linksys routers for example) can not properly handle an internet connection about around 15Mbps, and thats why FIOS provides the Actiontec device.

I used Linksys as an example due to their popularity, and the WRT series tops out at around 15Mbps (and thats WITH 3rd party firmware helping things along!).

My understand was that it was mostly a Linksys problem, although there were other devices that couldnt cope either. |
