Verizon doesn't do anything with the PIN. We've swapped numerous phones and we don't have to call Verizon to give them the new PIN, I just issue a new activation code and the phone handles everything else.
There is a possibly that they somehow know what the PIN is when we swap phones, but we swap phones through their web portal so unless they have some sort of IEMI/ESN to PIN database that automatically registers the new PIN with RIM, they're not updating anything. |

The PIN is linked to the IEMI/ESN and if the activation doesn't work correctly EA fails. It happens now and again and once VZW updates their records EA sails through.
