1/d^2 and directional

A cellphone outputs 1W of RF next to your head and it's safe (supposedly). Simple math shows that the field at 2000" (165ft) from an antenna radiating 1MW is about the same as the field from a cellphone at 2". Also transmitter antennas are very directional, making the actual field even lower below them.

That's incorrect. They put out between .3 and .6 watts for hand-helds, depending on tower proximity (in Canada, anyway). Fixed mounts are higher.
