Mcafee Expiration?

Click for full size
mcafee expiration
Just did a disk reimage on a one of my PCs, and installed mcafee from att. in the mcafee network manager, it says last scan date for this pc is the first, and that the mcafee subscription on the pc (which I downloaded/installed yesterday from the att site) expires 12.07.09, just over a month from now.

Mcafee says to verify the subscription, use the My Account in the Common Tasks area and log into your account......the My Account option is not there in the ATT version.

Whats up with this? I noticed the mcafee package supplied from ATT is different than it used to be, and now it has an expiration date? One of the reasons Im with ATT is the malware package as part of my subscription. Or are they going to another product in December, requiring all of us to remove mcafee and reinstall another product, like they did about 2 years ago with Norton?

I did have a system indicate that the AV subscription expired a few months ago and thought it was a fluke, but maybe its not. All I did is remove, download it again from ATT, and the system has been fine so far.

The network manager shows the same expiration date on all the systems on the network. So its a guess that either the network manager is simply confused or all my ATT supplied Mcafee products will expire on 12.07.09.

Anyone at ATT or one of you wizards care to comment or clear this up?

It probably doesn't mean much. I think that date is updated from time to time, as long as AT&T renews their licensing arrangements.

Speaking of att Mcafee..

How is the Memory usage with the Program
Currently have 4gbs of ram in this PC(Vista)
1gb ram in second desktop(XP SP3)
laptop 1.5gbs(XP SP3)
and Desktop upstairs 1gb(Vista)

would it run fine on those PC's, other Household PC's couldn't run it, not enough ram at all, been thinking about using it again from time to time, but haven't switched back as yet. I use Second life, and gaming stuff on this PC, as well as alot of other things...would there be any conflicts? if anyone knows

The subscriptions are short term to make sure you are still a customer of AT&T. If for any reason you disconnect AT&T - they don't want you to continue to get free AV.

Might as well put this here as well:

There was a major change with McAfee software for our customers.

Check this out:

New customers who get Express or lower speed packages do not get McAfee for free. There is now a 5$ per month charge.

What about existing customers who have Express or lower??
As of 10/18/09 - those customers can keep the currently installed McAfee for upto a year with no charge...

However - if for any reason you have to reinstall McAfee - you lose this exemption.

After that year runs out - McAfee will prompt you to subscribe and pay for the service. If your still on Express or lower.

Interesting. The web site link you offered doesnt differentiate that it comes free at any level, only that a user has the option to purchase it for up to 10 systems at a $5/month charge.

And as far as the expiration date goes, does it auto-update somehow when it compares my package subscription to the current customer list? Or do I have to delete/reinstall when the subscription expires?

That was my first reading. But then I looked again, and the page is specifically titled as "DSL Plan Details - AT&T High Speed Internet Express". I would guess that there are similar pages with details for Pro and Elite levels.

@sbcglobal.net

Here's the new wording after logging in at »sbc.software.yahoo.com/getprotected ...

"This security service offers anti-virus and anti-spyware technology, and includes a firewall to protect what you value. The new security suite provides three great services for up to 10 PCs, and for DSL Elite, DSL Pro, Business Elite, Business Pro, and all U-verse High-Speed Products, it is included at no additional cost. DSL Express, DSL Lite, Business DSL Express and Business DSL Lite customers pay only $5.00 per month for up to 10 PC’s."

Thanks for posting that.

Another change there, is that this is good for 10 PCs. As I recall, it was originally only for up to 4 PCs.

Was 4 if you never had the AT&T Yahoo Norton installed. If you did have the AT&T Yahoo Norton installed then you got 7 licenses (to match what Norton offered).

And it WAS good for 7 from a business account. I'll have to go by a client's and see what that's changed to.

I addressed it in my earlier post - but here it is again:

The subscriptions are short term to make sure you are still a customer of AT&T. If for any reason you disconnect AT&T - they don't want you to continue to get free AV.

To break it down:
It auto renews - if your still an AT&T customer when it renews then it stays active. If your not a customer then it tells the subscription expired.

Sorry Frohike, didnt quite understand from your OP that it auto-renewed if you are a current cust.

Thanks for your answer.
