Free audio editor software??

I am in need of a free audio editor software. To be used with a digital audio recorder. Will be splicing out sections of recordings I don't need etc.

Yes I know that is the first thing that pops up when you Google. I was hoping to get recommendations from people that have some experience with a specific program. Thanks for the responses though.

I've used Audacity to make digital recordings from old cassette tapes and I've used it to digitize vinyl records with excellent results.

For me, I haven't found a better program.

+1. I used it to cut a series of snippets of Christmas songs last year for a contest I was running.

If your needs are simple there is an editor within "exact audio copy". EAC works well for me and is so simple you don't get lost in all the options of the fancy programs.
