| Such an awesome program, that I just had to share!
While surfing my usual tech info sites I stumbled on a little program that creates a WiFi Hotspot out of any Windows 7 based wireless PC. The program is called "Connectify" and is a true WiFi Hotspot creator, not an (Ad-hoc PC to PC). Any PC using a compatible Wireless NIC can connect to this Hotspot. Takes less than 10 minutes to install and configure, and best of all it is FREE! I now have have maximum speed @54Mbps & excellent signal strength! Solved my out of range issues!

Check it out!
slo-motion.
P.S. Take note that this program will not work on XP or Vista! -- Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again? |

The laptop would have to run all day and can't go to sleep or power down thus you would loose connection or if it crashes. Still power usage is more than running a small plastic/metal AP instead.
Note you can also turn your laptop into a Wireless Bridge making wired devices wireless or stream media streamers wireless. I can be done. I tested that idea and it worked! |

| For every action there is an opposite reaction! Newton's Law.
You can't have good without evil, or night without day.
Your are correct, there are other ways to accomplish this task, but so far as I have found there is no simpler way.
The program is free, setup is fast.
However the drawback is that you need an unused Windows 7 PC, running 24/7 or at least as long as you require an internet connection.
All I can say is it solved my needs quite well, and may help others with the same or similar issues. -- Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again? |

| I've used it to save money
some places charge for wifi service, but with this me and friends can share, since I'll run this on my laptop and all my friends can then connect to my laptop and we are all online with just 1 charge.
The article on slashdot though, since it was an unreleased feature of windows 7, it's possible that microsoft may turn it off with a patch or service pack.
you can also run a hotspot and connect to more than 1 wifi service all with just 1 wifi device on your laptop or desktop. It's pretty wild.
There are some other uses you can use it for, and scanning other people's wifi connections and stuff.
