Re: Anti Virus Program? Tried Avast-Looking For Better Program

Kramer-I do not see anything. I did a hijck and only thing running was zone alarm and that was Pro which, as far as I know of, has no anti virus. Windows 7 site ok's Zone Alarm. I have e mailed Microsoft getting no real solutions. I even manually disabled Windows defender.
I am stumped. Would love to be able to use MSE!

You should *never* run more than one antivirus product that provides real time protection as they will conflict, causing performance issues, system instability, and may even cause protection to be compromised.
MSE should not be installed on a system that includes any other antivirus program.

I am running Avast and MSE right now, no performance issue, instability....
Why would you run both MSE and AVAST?

I have tried many and the one that provides the long term least hassle and decent performance has been AVAST. I fiddle and fart with lots of them on my puter, but AVAST is what I put on the rest of the house computers. MSE sounds like it may be very good also but there is a maturing cycle it probably needs to go through first.

I use to have Avast on both my systems for years and thought they were clean till I ran G-Data. G-Data cleaned them up however I have some issues as the following will highlight.

On my first system, I'm using G-Data and I think it was a mistake to buy it. If I try to play a video or audio such as one that is embedded in a web page the video/audio stutters. One of the reasons I thought I would get G-data was that it was ranked pretty high in reactive/proactive on that chart. But it comes at a price to interfere with the pc operation. When I remove G-Data security suite this stutter problem does not happen.

On my second PC I went CA security because there was no way that PC was going to happen with G-Data. But I see from the chat that software is 1/3 reactive/proactive of G-Data.

So I am stuck with both till my year is up.

I have been using Avira free. Like it better than any of the paid programs i have used. (kaspersky, nod32, Norton, Mcafee). Running it under windows 7 and the only downside is a add pops up once a day asking if i want to upgrade to the pro version.

Then again Malwarebytes was doing the scan and you would think it would be first
Nah - Your first thought was correct. Your resident AV program (MSE) is jumping in and checking things before the requesting application (Malwarebytes) gets a chance to see the data. If you think about it - that's the only safe way for MSE to protect you.

If you were to load Malwarebytes' resident protection, it would probably depend on the order in which they hooked themselves into the OS.

That makes perfect sense. That was a dumb thought. Still, I thought it was impressive that Malwarebytes didn't pick up anything additional, which is a rarity on infected machines of this type.

Just felt like trying it, plus it's on my notebook, not my main machine. I don't see any issues tbh.

I've been using Comodo Internet Security. It combines Anti-Virus, Firewall, and Proactive Defense (Defense+) features for free and without ads.

When you install it you can decide which features you want to use.

...kinda surprised nobody has mentioned this yet! :-P

Nobody mentioned that program because especially today the DSLR visitors have the sincere intention to remain calm and nice.

The OP has started numerous threads on this and other related problems. It seems he has more issues that just which AV to use. I suspect these issues are causing multiple AV's to not run properly when he tries them. Maybe not uninstalling properly before installing the next AV?

Are you looking for free software or just the best AV/FW in general?

IMHO, the best is Norton's Internet Security. I did use AVG and Comodo for 1 year and it was ok. That firewall takes some getting used to and you have to tweak it a bit.

I can't speak to this Cheese See Profile all I know is what I post back to threads on MSE is not to run another AV.
If it works for you, so be it.

amark - What, specifically, don't you like about the AV's you've already tried? What, specifically, problems did they cause for you?

Avast looked good but was buggy. I did an install and uninstalled and cleaned the computer. Home looks like it is working now. Seems to slow down browsing. I have not turned up any infections.
Really wanted MSE, but as noted a lot of posts about MSE freezing my computer.

Thanks for all the reples.

Avast was buggy? What version 4.8 or the beta 5, saying avast was buggy doesn't tell us much and if you are looking for help we need more than just avast was buggy.

Never hear that Avast is 'buggy', looking at OP's AV carousel I assume he didn't like Avast (like he didn't like so many other AV's).
