I looked but could not find a definitive answer to this one... Will Rogers register a Motorola SB6120 ?

Anyone !

Rogers normally refuses to register any modem not provided by them.

they use Scientific Atlantic in ontario. We dont support the Motorolla platform over here so even if they did register it which tghey dont, it would not connect.

Yes it would connect ... a DOCSIS modem is a DOCSIS modem. The biggest problem is that because they won't register it, any attempt to get an IP address will fail. They key the IP addresses to the MAC and Serial Number of the modem.

...Don't support the Motorolla platform? What about the thousands of SB510x modems currently being used in Ontario?

I think DJPaolo's a little confused.

The Motorola 6120 is a DOCSIS 3 platform modem. Not a "Motorola Platform" (that was the old wave modem that used the Motorola platform ... now obsolete)

The real issue though is that Rogers is not supporting the Motorola DOCSIS 3 modems only the SMC gateway modems (although the Motorola modems are being tested in some geographies presumably for later roll out)

I don't know where he got Scientific Atlanta from wrt modems ... that's the cable STBs ... they use mostly SA STBs here, and not Motorola STBs.

didnt know we were talking bout modems, usually when you hear about Scientific Atlantic vs. Motorolla, they are talking about Cable Set Top Boxes. Ontario uses Scientific Atlantic/Cisco, while Newfound land and New Brunswick uses Motorolla, not sure what the other provinces use, and the motorola that you guys are talking about is probaly a Cable Modem, if its a non-rogers hardware they will give u a hard time activating it,.

The DOCSIS modem gateways in Ontario are SMC ... not Scientific Atlanta (aka Cisco).

And to reach the bottom line, correct, if you didn't get it from Rogers or a Rogers distributor where it was already branded as from Rogers, then they will definitely give you a hard time activating it.

i never said the modems were scientific atlantic. I said the Television SET TOP BOXES WERE. The modems are a no brainer, everyone knows they have used all kinds of hardware from lancity, motorola, even SMC. which ive mentioned in a previous post about.

Rogers has used Motorola, Toshiba, and Scientific Atlanta modems in Ontario. I've had one of each.
