Issue with Wireless on WCG200cc modem/router

Hi there!

Let me give you some slight back story on my issue first. I rent a room in a house from a pretty cool guy. We have another roommate that's a bit of a jerk. The other roommate didn't pay his utilities for last month yet, so my landlord changed the WEP Key in the router to block him from the internets.

Well, two nights ago at some point in the middle of the night while the landlord was gone, the other roommate got into his room and reset the router. So I woke up yesterday morning with the routers SSID reset to Customer ID and it was on WPA security instead of WEP. So I let the landlord know, since the modem is in his bedroom and he's the only wired connection, and he set it back to WEP and gave me the new WEP Key.

Now cut to last night and this morning, I cannot connect to the wireless. We've made sure I'm using the proper WEP Key, we even set another one, it won't let me in. If I have my computer on DHCP it just sits and fails to connect and I'm told by the system that either I'm out of the wireless range or I'm using the wrong WEP Key. If I set myself on a static IP for the gateway, it tells me I'm connected but have no internet access, possibly due to an invalid WEP Key. Can't ping or log into the gateway like this either.

So my question to everyone would be:

Any ideas? I've gone so far as to get on his computer and verify the WEP key is correct and set a new one, checked it multiple times, I'm using the right one. Is there any setting that would've been changed when it was reset that needs to be re-enabled? I want to pound my head into the wall.

Interesting story there.. WEP key on your system is corrupted. You need to have the landlord create a new one in the router. Best to use WPA2 AES encryption key and do it manual don't use WPS.

What did you change after the router was reset on your system? You must of fiddle with some setting what needs to be undone?

Changed nothing on my system after this happened. I removed the old network since the SSID is now changed on the router as well as the WEP key, found it on the network, and tried to connect. I don't really see how the WEP Key is corrupt, especially as I have changed it a couple of times and get the same problem. Maybe you could detail that a bit more?

Is it possible the router owner enabled MAC address filtering?

Have him also check the preamble setting (two options - long or short). Some cards don't one or the other.
