| 3.65Ghz in Canada
Has anyone in Canada begun deploying 3.65 gear? what are the licence requirements? Is it worth it?
My gut at this stage is that it may be worth it for WISP's in larger urban areas with tons of competition/noise but makes no sense for the smaller WISP's in rural areas. Cost is also a factor, I can't get anyone to give me firm costs on a base AP or a CPE but I believe it would be a factor. Maybe this is still a ways out... |

| reply to CMack Its coming, but you have to be careful.
First off, is your prospective gear certified? Not much is yet.
Second, you have to watch what Tier 4 license area you are in. The license is $0.0042 per head of population per year from the 2001 census. Tier 4 areas can be found on IC's site.
Toronto would run you about $23,000 per year even for one lost and lonely AP tucked away in a corner of the York Tier 4...
You need to register your APs and SUs??? in a database so others can see where they are.
Rules are here. »www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/smt-gst.ns···-eng.pdf
Aside from that its interesting.

| reply to GNca George Bang on. And there are a lot of geographical restrictions near the border. On the other hand, in low density areas you will be allowed to use all 50 MHz with TDD gear. SU's should not need to registered, just the Base Stations.
Technically no gear is yet IC certified as the RSS standard is not yet published, so no manufacturer can do the certification test. No Test, no certificate. Tranzeo and several other manufacturers are working with IC to find a way to fast track this. It was nearly two years between the release of 4900 MHz licenses and the RSS, and hopefully this period of time will be shorter for 3650 MHz. |
