| Samsung color printers 3175 vs 3175FW
Hello
I am interested in getting a color laser printer. I like the Multi-Function capabilities and these printers seem to be getting decent reviews. however, one seems more expensive than the other. I can't seem to find out if it's worth purchasing the more expensive feature-rich model.
let me know your thoughts.

| The ADF on the more expensive model could be handy if you copy (duplicate) or scan many files, saves one hovering over it feeding paper sheet by sheet. ADF's don't often handle small pieced of paper (or mixed sizes) well. It appears this model also does faxing, and also has built in wireless (very useful if you are planning to have several machines use it, but don't have a network cable in the location.
Meh, neither appears to do duplex printing, which is a turn off IMHO.
Though overall I am happy with the build quality of Samsung products. I have a ML-2251N (monochrome) which has churned out 32k sheets, still going strong. |

Does the ADF work with the scanner? I can drop ten 8x11 pages and they would be individually scanned? |

| reply to piglatinlove The only two major differences between the two are that the FW model has wireless networking built in and an automatic document feeder for scans and fax.
If you do a lot of multipage scanning and or faxing, that's a big plus. Also, the N and FW models are network enabled so you don't have to have a computer running to use them on the network. They'll be accessible as network shares as long as they are turned on and connected to your router. The FW is wireless which is nice if you want to locate the printer in another room and don't want to run cable to it.
Only you can decide if these features are worthwhile to you or not, but if I were shopping for a color all in one I'd shoot for the FW model or more likely a higher model that does duplexing as well like the CLX-6200FX.

Also if you don't need the wireless but still want a networked printer with a document feeder look at the CLX-3575FN.

Personally I use a B&W SCX-4826FN which does duplexing and document feeding on my router
»www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/deta···26FN/XAA
As well as a CLP-300 for simple color printing shared on one of my computers
»www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/deta···-310/XAA
which allows me the best of both worlds. Cheap B&W documents and faxes as well as slightly less cheap color printing when necessary.
And I'd just like to add I'm a big time fanboi of Samsung lasers. I've owned and upgraded several over the years, recommended them to a dozen family members and friends and they operate flawlessly and support Linux very well also.
Any of the machines listed would serve you very well over the years. |

| reply to piglatinlove Good question, I skimmed through the manual (available at Samsung website) and it doesn't say. It doesn't discuss the functions of the ADF in any detail.
One thing I don't like about Samsung (and this is true for many companies) is they tend to underdocument their product. |

| The ADF on the 3175FN and FX models looks pretty much the same as the one on my SCX-4826FN. That is to say it's a single sided feeder with a 25 page capacity. It WILL scan up to 25 8.5x11 pages automatically for copying or faxing. It WON'T however, scan both sides of the documents in a single pass.
One thing that's kind of annoying yet neat thing about this "feature" on a duplexing printer is that it will take 25 single sided pages and copy them onto 13 double sided pages in a single pass. However if you wanted to recopy the copies yet again, you'd actually have to feed them in one sheet at a time in order to keep the second sides intact and in order. Meh, it's a quirk I've learned to live with.
Anyway, as previously stated, duplexing is not an issue with the 3175FN and FX models. |

Does anyone think these models will be on sale or drop in price anytime soon? |

1 edit | Staples has sales on printers all the time. Go in and ask if any of those models have been on sale for the last six months and for how much. Typically there are two different sale prices on most models, one that runs frequently (ur typical 15% off) and one less frequently thats more like 30% off. Once you know the steeper sale price wait for that as often best buy will duplicate it, and of course Dell from time to time has great online deals. Finally, if its an older model Costco might pick it up and their everyday price can be amazing. |

Also factor in if you need it just for color or just pain b and w printing. |

| reply to piglatinlove Samsung toners can be had elsewhere than Staples usually at a significant discount if you do a little creative googling.
Also, as the printer models age and become more popular, the aftermarket opens up and suddenly you can buy remanufactured and/or aftermarket cartridges for 1/2 or even 1/3 of Samsung's prices.
My experience has been as a laser printer ages, the cost of toners goes down in price not up.
Personally though, I don't screw around with refill kits. Those are simply too messy and dangerous to screw around with IMHO. |
