Bicephale : Lets make a wild guess by supposing the "leakage" threshold
is 100 uA, if one converts 48 Volts @ 100 uA into 3.3 Volts
he can't hope for much more than 1 mA of available current.

So, other than an array of LCD watches, what else can one
have in mind as a usefull load?!...

Oinktastic : How about using a blinker bulb that constantly draws power and then cuts out momentarily? If Bicephale's impression is correct, this should fool the system into keeping the power source connected to the line and allow you to draw almost maximum current at the same time. ;)

Bicephale : I'm afraid 20 mA is the off-hook current, i don't know about
other locations but i was under the impression that if Bell's
HardWare should detect an off-hook condition for too long
it would place my phone-line in "iddle" state. This sure does
not seem very practical to me if the power source won't be
available for more than a few minutes. If the concept were
to draw only a tiny amount of current below some "leakage"
detection level then maybe that might make sense but it's
not too clear to me what that sort of power will accomplish.

It's a limitation from telephone loops having current-limiting resistors/circuitry that limit current draw to about 20mA, it has very little to do with wire gauge.

dslrocker3 : There are similar ones available on Ebay as well and in a color that isn't pink. The cost is about $7 which includes shipping.

It sounds good to not have to pay for the elecricity to use these. However, I would be concerned about what it would do to the quality of a DSL signal if a bunch of them were plugged in and they drew to much power.

AkFubar : Hate the colour. LEDs use very little current. Have enough people (millions) with these lamps tho and it might have an impact in which case BHell will probably jack up their rates to compensate :huh:
