Ledebuhr1 : Additional info. To try to get the computer to recognize the USB adaptor I will un-plug it and then plug it back in. When you do this, the computer makes a "duh-duh" sound as it recognizes the USB devices. Well if I do this 8-9 times the computer will stop recognizing that the USB drives even exist. no matter what I put in the usb drive it wont recognize it. So I have to restart the computer to fix it. When this happens the computer wont shut down normally, and must be manualy shut down. The computer is perfect except for this USB wifi issue.

Help connecting to the network!!

Ledebuhr1 : I have to use a USB wifi adaptor to connect to my universitys network from my Apartment. For a couple years I have used an adaptor attached to 3 sections of active USB cable. This usually worked great and good signal. Now I am having trouble getting the computer to connect to the network. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for the adaptor, this did not help. The computer will find the network, but wont connect. I have moved my laptop to close to network router with the adaptor and it works perfect. I think the problem is the interaction of the Active usb cable, Vista and the Usb drivers. For it to work everything has to be perfect, but that’s the problem.
Is there any other way that is relatively easy to remotely hook up to a network? I have heard of a bridge, but these don’t automatically find and connect to the network correct? Any suggestions on what I can do to help the situation.
It must go outside and be somewhat unconscious as its will be on the front of the appt.
