| reply to vue666 Re: [Poll] Why don't people wash their hands after taking a dump
said by vue666 : Out of the stall comes one of our executives. He steps to the wash basin and looks in the mirror, fixes his hair & smiles to me that he is off to flip burgers & cook some hot dogs for an employee Charity lunch.... Then leaves the washroom without turning on the tap or washing his hands... This is two kinds of problems: a sanitary one and a PR one.
Most people know to watch the foul language in certain company: they're not against potty mouth, just being seen as a potty mouth.
Likewise, even those who don't really care about the sanitary effects - which is about protecting others, not yourself - ought to have enough sense to realize what kind of impression this makes and at least make a head-fake to cleanliness if they're being watched.

| reply to jeffster1970 Wow... some of these stories are absolutely disgusting, especially the food related ones.
At home, there's usually a 1% chance I don't wash my hands, and that's usually if I just get out the shower and have to take a leak. I'm already clean, and unless I splash myself (lol) I usually don't bother. But if I leave the bathroom after a shower, then come back in shortly after, I always wash. And if I don't actually wash with soap, I always use Purell.
When I'm at work on the other hand, I wash my hands just for the sake of washing my hands sometimes. Especially after having to deal with large amounts of money, or any boxes/packages, your hands just get disgusting. -- ~There is no Normal or Abnormal... Just Diversity. | People by nature it seems are slobs. I have witnessed this bathroom nonsense too many times to count. Must be how you are raised. I would never even think of leaving the bathroom, whether at home or out in public without washing my hands. It is revolting watching well dressed people just waltz out of a stall and back about their day.. you just want to grab them by the collar and stick there head under the sink.. |

Now, if you've got black drip or festering herpes sores then yeah, you might want to lather up. In fact, you should probably wash your hands before you go pee considering the filth your hands have touched during the day. -- I'm a man, but I can change. If I have to. I guess.

| reply to jeffster1970 Concur, washing hands makes more sense before. I know I wear clean clothes and my own urine has a strong pH which is a killer agent in itself . . Its the handles on the faucets and the handles on doors to get OUT after its all said and done (not to mention seats and nozzles) that worry me. |

| reply to urbanriot I went to this washroom in Kitchener - a Greek restaurant in a new part of town, and they had no doors on the washroom. A hallway leads to the womens washroom and the other way to the mens. Good idea - one problem, the urinal is right in front of the door (the door frame) so if any woman went in the wrong direction by accident, she'd see everything. Also at a community centre, the had the urinals well hidden - however, the hand dryers had a mirror like finish so anyone walking by could see the reflection of some guy taking a leak - that was fixed real quick by putting special tape on the dryers - but it was a really funny oversite. -- This message was composed using 100% post-consumer recycled electrons, please recycle responsibly. This is all you touch. |
Who needs to wash their hands when you have Japanese Super Toilets.

The toilets offer numerous health benefits (from healing hemorrhoids to stretching hamstrings). And it doesnt stop here. Coming attractions include built-in medical systems that will analyze your urine and send the information directly to your doctor via wireless Internet. |

| reply to jeffster1970 I've always wondered about that.
A lot has been said to wash your hands but few seem to realizze that in order to turn a tap you need to actually turn it with your dirty hands, and then after you're done washing, you need to touch the now dirty tap to turn off the water. You've more or less nullified whatever hand washing you've done!
Not every bathroom is automatic either; hell, most public restrooms still use old style twist taps!
I recall my high school used the large round circular basins where water was released when your foot was applied to the lever but I haven't seen such a design since leaving HS. |

Unfortunately it seems most restrooms prefer using dryers than to bother with the expense of replenishing paper towels which, more often than not, end up on the floor beside the garbage can they're suppose to go in. |

| reply to jeffster1970 Seriously this time...
I don't think it really matters but I still wash my hands after taking a leak at work (rarely take a dump there). Where I work there are automatic urinals and faucets but you have to pull two doors to get out (bathrooms that have a no-touch 'winding entrace' are cool, they have them at my school).
Anyways there is an extra garbage can between the two doors to toss paper towel so you can pull the doors without touching them. I'm using it this winter with the H1N1 flu and all but I'm not sure if I'll stick with it.
I really doubt anybody has ever gotten seriously sick or died as a result of a bathroom door. "That bathroom door handle really did him in." Maybe if you had some serious hiv/aids or some shit but I'd like to think that most things that don't kill me would only make me stronger. |
