But is an odd functionality.... so can se why they might deny they might to ignore the obvious design flaw.

But hard drives are not vented but HERMETICALLY sealled (maybe look it up) but also meand they are presured sealed to a reasonable presure which should not be the minimum 10K but to like 12K maybe more.

And that answered what.... modern drives are HERMETICALLY SEALED look that up... no vents... and when there are again can cause problems while the pressure is changing and if humid/non clean room environment problems down the road.
They all have vent holes for pressure purposes. If they were fulled sealed they could potentially rupture during changes in pressure (such as when flying), or even if you drove up into the mountains.

OK 8K in stead of 9-10K ft either way 10K is about the max for human used to near sea level, and many of them (though really smal number) get altititude sick bcause just to different but over 10K ft efective pressure. aND A hd minimally SPECED ro that might also.... instead of even 11K

And these few hardware just speced to edge do fail when they SHOULDN'T.

No to my understanding they are hermetically sealed to a certain level....and that is it.... acording to you 2K ft below max but stil rated to 10K still OBVIOUSLY DO.

May be more critical to them than most humans. We can acept humidity... sealed corrisive potential units can not

But eveidentaly according to you cabin pressure or HD seal can EVERY fall out of spec and bot are LITTERALLY TO EDGE tied to them. HUGE BS.

Not many PSI either way can make A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Dont want to believe me ask ANY scuba diver!!!

ITS one of two things airline are heavinly exceeding alt specs or HD manufacturers are HEAVILY cutting corners on ratings.

BUT is what we have discused has happened..... then likely hunidity and other hermetically sealed violation stuff has gotten in there.

So ANY critical data on that drive needs to be moved elsewhere.... before it is maybe lost to corrosion or some thing.

And again other than at altitude might still work fine.... I would get any crtical data off it NOW!

But you would think for hardware they could do better.

Do you know what the drive brand is???

Again while haven't flown in 4 years but with many laptops and amany drive manufactures and never encountered the problem.... though also over a small space of years (95-05) when laptops were practical enough to have.... and honestly did'nt always use them in the air.

Likely though it wouldn't wipe the data (unless the heads actually crashed and scratched the drive platter) just make the the computer incapable.

most are rated only to 10K ft pressure.... if it slipped above that could be the problem to and a very on the edge of that criterial drive. Had it stayed at that presure long enough might have been fine too.... how long was the flight?

Thats just the thing, it actually works while climbing/descending but NOT while at altitude. And acutally most HD are only rated to 10K ft now that I think about it... so the airline allowing pessure drop lower than that could be the problem too.

Especially possibly a poorly sealed hard drive.... that might return to norm at near sea level stable environment , but problems at altitude with slow pressure leaks knocking about the less than feather weight heads so they don't read properly.

Worked OK back on the ground???.... that would rule out overly zaped by a scaning machine.

I will certainly try turning off the wireless, however that thread appears to indicate the problem is hard drive related. Its funny, I never checked online to see if others were having the same issue as I assumed it was unique to me!

Cosmic ray exposure increases as you gain elevation in the atmosphere. Maybe the error checking in your RAM is bad enough already that any further exposure to cosmic rays causes it to cease functioning entirely.
