Need to replace DC connector

Click for full size
Hello,

I have a device that has two DC power inputs. The connectors were broken by my 2 year old, and I need to replace them.

They are a PBC DC connector. They look like this here.

They each have different sized pins.
outside they are both about 5.4-5.5mm
inside pin is 2mm on one, and 2.46mm-2.5mm on the other.

The entire house is 11.5mm deep, and 7mm wide.

The thing has four pins out the bottom, but only three are being used. The rear pin connects to the inside pin, and the other three connect to the tab the touches the outside part of the power source.

Anyone know who sells these things? Already tried my usual radio shack.

Should try to check off the [x] instock box.
You should look for Through Hole, right angle, Jack with the dimensions you need.

Wiki page has a list of standard sizes:

Unfortunately they dont have a match to these. Some are close, but because of the space requirement of where they will go it has to be pretty much exact to the original.

Call Customer Service at Rapid Conn. Ask for a distributor for single piece orders.

Or, if you feel adventurous, they may just send you one gratis for the asking if you are not too much of an annoyance LOL.

Wouldn't hurt to ask! Conduct yourself in a "professional manner". Ask if it is possible to get an "engineering sample" or two for "evaluation" prior to a initial bulk purchase of 10,000 parts.

Good luck!

Another option is to eliminate the connector and just solder the wires from wall wart to the device. All depends on how important being able to disconnect the device is.

Another option- get jacks that are close in size to the originals (but the plastic body may be a little too large). Use a burr in a Dremel tool to remove some of the excess plastic, so the jacks will fit in the allocated space.

Best to practice on some scrap (such as the bodies of the broken jacks) before trimming the new jacks.

You say it has four pins, and that three of them are connected to the contact that brushes against the outer barrel of the adapter's connector? In selecting a replacement, you had better determine if some of those pins form a NC switch that is opened when the adapter is plugged in (similar to the schematic in the picture that you posted).

If the equipment does not have a battery pack (which would be disconnected by plugging in the AC adapter), it is unlikely the jack would have a switch that is wired into the circuitry. It is possible that the original jacks had a switch built into them, but the switch would only be connected under certain circumstances.

That's social engineering. If you say, "engineering sample," that would be a dead tip-off.

I wouldn't do it.

Call the company that made the item that the connectors came from and ask if they have replacement connectors for them, or at least get a source on where to get them.
