After doing a little research I found out that I need the ATI DCT and will still need to rent a cablecard.

Actually, I think most people are going to want the new Ceton Multi-Channel CableCard units not the antiquated ATI ones.

My cable company, RCN, quoted me a ~$1.99 a month charge per-cable card. In contrast, I’m currently paying about ~$12 a month per digital cable box (2x) which between the two of them only allows for two simultaneous streams of viewing / recording. With the new upcoming generation of 2x, 4x and 6x DCT units from Ceton one cablecard can presumably allow for 2x, 4x or 6x concurrent watch / record functionality per-DCT. So I would be saving ~$10 a month every month and gain more concurrent recording capabilities in Microsoft Windows 7 Media Center.

This should have a very high Wife Approval Factor and greatly reduce tuner conflicts.
