| Lotto Max
Has anyone else been keeping an eye on or throwing money at this new Lotto. I see it actually had a winner last night, that's right someone beat those incredible odds and won 50 million, not only that but last night was the first night that the bonus 1 million draws started and they would have us believe that not just one but eight lucky tickets beat these incredible odds and were drawn. Three sets were even the same numbers (I would love to see the odds of that happening).
I'm really beginning to believe that you no longer need to wish your numbers are randomly drawn but your numbers are the ones that were chosen to be the winners this week. The odds of any one line being drawn are phenomenal but the odds of nine different tickets beating those odds on one night have to be astronomical. |

| reply to tayls My Gf ended buying some tickets...not sure if she was one of the "chosen" one lol.
I have lost trust in OLG and think most games are fixed in a way. Super7 was the only game I used to play regularly and KENO occasionally. After they got rid of Super7, I started to become rich $20 every month. |

| one of the things that bothers me is the OLG ads i hear on the radio now, how they talk about retailers having to play the game at other retailers because they care about integrity in the game...you want integrity, forbid retailers from being eligible to win the lotteries...in almost any other "prize" or "contest", employees (and often their friends and family) are not allowed to take part in the program...as well, the retailers already get a commission on all payouts, so if one of their customers wins $10 million, they get something like $100,000 in commission...it makes no sense that they are able to participate in the program...if the OLG REALLY wanted to clean up its act, it would forbid ALL retailers from participating in the program. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

Bill what do you mean it isn't fair...not being able to participate is SOP for most contests...it clearly states on most contests under their "Rules and Regulations" that employees (and often friends and family" of the employees) are NOT eligible to participate.
in the case of lottery retailers, sure, they wouldn't be able to win the big jackpots, but considering that the odds of winning a jackpot are infinitesimal anyway, the profits from the sales and the commissions on winnings should MORE than make up for not being allowed to play...keep in mind, for some "unknown" reason, lottery winners (and their family) somehow seem to win about 3-5x more than us regular folk??...coincidence??...i think not. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

They won because they "stole" tickets from people who would come in and people would unsuspectingly not know this...That's why.
Also the commissions are not that great from what I hear. Also typically that commission would go into the store owners pocket and not to the employee who makes minimum wage who sold the ticket.
And for the reason just stated above is why this wouldn't happen.
Unless you'd like the lottery to be set up a la LCBO and have their own stores and pay their employees a decent wage instead of the $9.50/hr that the minimum wage is that person could not live on their own with (I've tried...its impossible, and that was 9 years ago).
So I agree with them having to go to other retailers to buy, it increases transparency in the system.
Unless you have a better solution DJ? Because I'm sure that nobody would sell tickets if they didn't have a chance to play. Sure it may be a "tax" as far as the government is concerned, but hey someone has to win the lottery.
I await your response to this "dilemma" that you want to put the retailers in. |

i know that.

i don't know what the exact commission is, but i can assure you they are fairly decent...my wife's friend's aunt and uncle own a lottery kiosk in the mall close to here...they also have nice new house right around the corner...they have owned that little kiosk for some time now (probably 20 years) and i can assure you they are doing just fine.

i agree...but that shouldn't matter...the employee is there to sell lotto tickets, nothing more, nothing less.

i suppose pulling the lottery sales from all the variety stores, gas stations and kiosks and bringing it all "in-house" is one possible solution, but i don't know how successful that would be.

not really...they can still scam the system, they simply cash them in elsewhere...no big deal.
quote: Because I'm sure that nobody would sell tickets if they didn't have a chance to play.
they would still want to sell the tickets, because they already get a cut of the sales plus a bonus on winnings.

the only dilemma is the one which the retailers have put themselves into, but ripping off the lottery commission and its customers. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

But unless you're willing to turn those generalizations and aspersions into something a bit more specific and backed by some hard data, that statement could be easily mis-construed as racist, or at the very least stupid. -- bb2
