DO NOT take any advice along these lines. There is no need what so ever for 1000mW and antennas with that kind of gain. First of all it is very illegal. Second of all, with signal levels that high, you will fry or burn out the receive sides of the radios in short order.

I have made 20 mile shots with 30mW and two 24dBi grid antennas. Power isn't the answer. It will also NOT go through trees, building etc. Using a clean LOS (Line of site) that has no obstructions, radios with decent receive sensitivity and directional antennas will make all the difference.
