Hit and run

I was involved in a hit and run a little while ago. I was at a stop light and a car turning right rear ended me. I was a little shaken up so didn't follow the guy but wrote down his license plate. I gave the officer that showed up license plate # 5NDF706. He ran the plate and the car that came up didn't match with the car model I saw. So it looks like I wrote down the plate number wrong. He said he would play with the number, but didn't sound too convincing to me.

So I have a couple of questions. What is a good site to do my own searches? I see a couple of sites out there that look like you can do many searches for a yearly fee.

Also, can my DSLR brethren take a look at the license plate indention he left on my bumper to see if you can help me get the correct license plate number? I'm going to try to get a better pic in a minute as well.

Thanks!

After looking at a few pics and the actual car again, I thing I reversed a few numbers. I believe the plate # is actually 5NDF607. Can anyone run this plate for me?

I live in Lakewood California.

Thanks dandelion. FYI I did not even see this indention on my bumper until I got home. I don't think the officer did either. I think I will stop by the station in a bit and give them the new number.

If anyone can still run this number for me, or give me advice on how to run the number myself that would be awesome.

Re: Hit and run

The plate you wrote down might have not matched the car that popped up for the officer could be because it was stolen off another vehicle. Hence the hit you and haul ass.

Also, it looks like it's going to be a custom plate as it doesn't fit the standard letter/number combo: Cal commercial: 1B23456 or standard: 1ABC214.

*NDTYOT is what I can possibly get off the plate.

Well, it's hard to tell from the pics. But by reading what I can of the letters off of my bumper and checking that with what I wrote down, I know almost for certain that 5NDF607 is the correct license plate #. Check out my tracing on the pic.

I went to the police station and asked that they put plate 5NDF607 on my police report. They were really helpful, and told me that the car on this plate does match the description of what I gave earlier, and that the owner lives in my town.

What happens next, I don't know.

If anyone can still trace the plate for me I would appreciate it. I have a friend who is pretty sure he can get the plate traced, but am not sure at this point.

I would expect them to take you with them to the address and examine the car the plate is on for damage and to ask you if you can identify the car at that address as the one that hit you. And then to bust the car owner for leaving the scene of an accident.

Or most likely the car and plate were stolen.

I was wondering how it took people so long to figure that out. Even Microsoft Paint will flip a picture horizontally.
