so this is a vrad right? »img213.imageshack.us/img213/1350···047y.jpg »img24.imageshack.us/img24/4010/img0050xg.jpg
its on the service road outside my neighborhood, but I'm about a mile away from it. When i ran into at&t techs right near my house he said I would definately be able to get uverse soon. (They were upgrading the copper in the neighborhood or soemthing) I've checked around I guess I just cant see it from the road. Do they stick em in peoples yards?
btw this is riverwood subdivision just south of I-12 covington, LA |

@sbcglobal.net | Yep, that's a VRAD.
No, they very rarely stick them in people's yards, contrary to their competitor's commercials. |

No, they very rarely stick them in people's yards, contrary to their competitor's commercials. Rarely, but not never.
I have done an install or two where the VRAD happened to be in the customer's yard -- well, technically not really, because the VRAD is in the utility easement, but right in front
The part that a competitor's commercials leave out: Where that VRAD is placed, there has been a Copper Cross Connect Telephone Cabinet for years, and a Standard Cross Box and the "Mini" model VRAD really are not much different size-wise...
(For reference, the VRAD pictured above is a "Mini" model) |

| reply to DJpattiecake FTTC indicates that the field electronics are placed in an enclosure at the curb. Fiber To The Curb.
In your subdivision you're FTTN. Fiber To The Node. You have to be within 3,000ft of the main box because that's where all the field electronics are. |

Though I imagine it'll be there soon enough. |

4 edits | reply to DJpattiecake im still confused. 1 person says i gotta be 3000 feet from the main box. another says it doesnt matter because theres tons of small boxes. im 5000 feet from the main box, so am I ok....? and technically this is in covington, not mandeville (by address, though it's closer to mandeville), but who's counting?
the thing is, all of these neighborhoods on this service road (river oaks, riverwood, country club) spread westward for a mile or two. One VRAD at the entrance couldnt possibly reach all of these potential customers. (I'm at the back)
and I opened a thread on at&t direct and they basically told me the same stuff the phone reps do. "there is nothing currently active in that area, but we are constantly expanding, so check back soon, blah blah"
thanks for all the help guys |
