its on the service road outside my neighborhood, but I'm about a mile away from it. When i ran into at&t techs right near my house he said I would definately be able to get uverse soon. (They were upgrading the copper in the neighborhood or soemthing) I've checked around I guess I just cant see it from the road. Do they stick em in peoples yards?

btw this is riverwood subdivision just south of I-12

Yep, that's a VRAD.

No, they very rarely stick them in people's yards, contrary to their competitor's commercials.

I live in Normandy Oaks and I do not know when it will be available in my subdivision. I am about a mile north of I-12 on hwy. 21. I do not even see a VRAD anywhere around.

Rarely, but not never.

I have done an install or two where the VRAD happened to be in the customer's yard -- well, technically not really, because the VRAD is in the utility easement, but right in front

The part that a competitor's commercials leave out: Where that VRAD is placed, there has been a Copper Cross Connect Telephone Cabinet for years, and a Standard Cross Box and the "Mini" model VRAD really are not much different size-wise...

(For reference, the VRAD pictured above is a "Mini" model)

You won't see one. You're FTTC. Gotta wait on an upgrade to the field electronics. Not happening this year.

does FTTC mean that's my vrad a mile away and they are going to hop the connection through the neighborhood with those smaller boxes I see all over?

in short, yes. it's fiber from the small box to the "VRAD". you will never notice a difference in speed with these boxes.

FTTC indicates that the field electronics are placed in an enclosure at the curb. Fiber To The Curb.

In your subdivision you're FTTN. Fiber To The Node. You have to be within 3,000ft of the main box because that's where all the field electronics are.

It's in Mandeville. All the address in that subdivision I'm running at uverse.att.com are returning back not available.

Though I imagine it'll be there soon enough.

If you open a thread in the ATT Direct forum at »/forum/sbcdirect you can get an address validation rather easily. if you read the sticky at the top of this page regarding address validation, it can be even quicker.

im still confused. 1 person says i gotta be 3000 feet from the main box. another says it doesnt matter because theres tons of small boxes. im 5000 feet from the main box, so am I ok....? and technically this is in covington, not mandeville (by address, though it's closer to mandeville), but who's counting?

the thing is, all of these neighborhoods on this service road (river oaks, riverwood, country club) spread westward for a mile or two. One VRAD at the entrance couldnt possibly reach all of these potential customers. (I'm at the back)

and I opened a thread on at&t direct and they basically told me the same stuff the phone reps do.
"there is nothing currently active in that area, but we are constantly expanding, so check back soon, blah blah"

thanks for all the help guys

If you posted in the direct, that is the most definitive source to weither or not you can get Uverse. If he said they do not currently offer it to your address, i apologize.
