| 2008 Prius headlight problem
I turn on the headlights, and both come on. The driver's side seems a little "blue" - passenger side is whiter. Same with high or low beam. After a couple of minutes, the driver's side headlight goes out.

| I am going to assume that you have discharge headlights. I am also going to assume that the warranty has expired due to mileage.
The simplest thing you can do is to switch the bulbs left to right and see if the problem follows the bulb.
If it does, then a new bulb is required. If the problem does not move, then you need a new ballast for the headlight (Toyota name: Computer, Sub-assembly Headlamp Light Control LH)
Please note that if you replace only one bulb, there will be a brightness and color difference. This is because of the aging characteristics of discharge bulbs. The only solution to this is to replace both bulbs at the same time.
Here is a discharge bulb test procedure:

Please note, If the arc tube inside the bulb is distorted or has a blister, then the bulb also requires replacement. |

| Thanks, that is very helpful. I do believe the vehicle is still under warranty - never thought of that for bulbs.
I looked at switching the bulbs, and there is not much room behind the headlamp - I think I am going to bring it to the dealer and see what they say. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |
