So you may have to rent a cable card from wow to make it work.
Look in to the fcc law the cable co MUST LET YOU CABLE CARD POWERed boxes that you own. |

And if it's is not stolen then they may be forced to trun it on for you. |

| Yes the box has a cable card in it, you can tell by the HD"C". But here is the issue, they dont sell them to the public so if he has a box its most likely stolen and WOW or any other cable company WILL NOT turn it on.
If you want another box then its $7.00 a month. |

But if some does pay the unturned fee then they do own it.
Also some cable co's do sell boxes / cable cards.
This likely is far from the open and shut case.
If the box is not stolen then by fcc law it MUST BE TURNED on. |

If the box is not stolen then by fcc law it MUST BE TURNED on. Nope. They do not have to activate any Motorola or SA box. The only box that the FCC says they must turn on is a Tivo, or whatever else is sold in the retail chain. A stolen box is stolen. The charge they charge customers when they don't return it doesn't mean that they then own the box, it still must be returned by whoever else gets the box. That stolen box is marked as stolen in the cable company's database and they will not activate it until it is returned back to them. They want to make sure it hasn't been tampered with. |

| reply to castsucks Here is the problem with your theory. They didnt actually sell it to him, he defaulted on the contract and didnt return the equipment so they charged him. And yes when you sign the installers work order there is a contract on the back saying that if you dont return the box they will charge you. That doesnt mean they have to turn it on and again, they WILL NOT turn it on. |

| Not in the US they aren't. The FCC has nothing to do with Canadian sold, stolen or whatever boxes. The cable company does not have to do anything with a box that was never sold in the US market. SA and Motorola boxes are only sold to the cable companies and the FCC knows this. They FCC will back the cable companies when it comes to this. |
