I've given up on the Panasonic LX3 being unavailable. I'm looking at the Canon S90. Anyone have an opinion on this camera
It shoots raw and has a 28mm to 105mm, 35mm equivalent zoom and max aperture f2.0. |

| reply to Willy It's a good camera and IQ wise according to people who own one over at the DPReview forums is as good and some say better than the LX3. I would wait till it's officially reviewed by one of the better sites.
Also I have played with an S90 at Best Buy and for what it cost it felt cheap and plasticly compared to my LX3.
Spend time in the DPReview forums and read the S90 threads. »forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum···k-forum/
If I was in the market right now which would I choose. Without a doubt the LX3. That fast Leica 2.0-2.8 zoom lens is amazing. |

| reply to Willy IQ is pretty good, stop down to around f2.8~f4 for the best sharpness. The amount of control is excellent and should allow you to change everything you need rather quickly. LX3 is still slightly better in term of IQ due to the better lens, but ISO wise the s90 is a bit better, which is expected due to the age of the camera.
The S90 is smaller and lighter than the LX3. The reduction in thickness is really noticeable.
Now whether you want a camera based on the physical dimensions, high ISO quality or better lens/sharpness is up to you |

| reply to Willy Also depends if you want to do macros as well, the LX3 is one of the best setups available for macro work once you add a Raynox add-on lens.
The S90 can not compete on the lens side of things, Canon's P&S have never been able to keep up with Panasonic's Leica lenses and most likely never will, none on the market truly do. They pick up soo much more finer details. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. |

| I decided to go with the S90. I kind of got fed up and annoyed with Panasonic and the back-order issues with the LX3.
Also the reviews seemed very positive comparing it to the G11 and LX3 with some saying it may be better than both. I'm also glad for the extra reach of the lens, 105mm instead of the 60mm of the LX3.
A Leica lens probably is superior to the Canon on the test bench but this is my walk around camera when I don't want to carry a DSLR and bag full of lenses.
So far I'm very happy with it. |
