| the absorber
I have always used a chamois to dry my cars after washing for more years than I care to remember. I read on a auto forum somewhere about 'the absorber' and how it was excellent for drying cars, especially when followed up with a microfiber cloth for any left over water streaks. Well I ran across them at Pep Boys while shopping for something else. I decided to give it a try several months as they are only about $10. Wow ! I can't believe what a fantastic job it does. It is by far the best thing I have ever used to finish off a wash job. Wish I had know about this years ago as I've spent a small fortune on chamois over the years (and they don't last but so long). I have read where people have used the absorber for years and years. Just thought I'd pass it along. It's also great for those Fall mornings when your car is wet from overnight dew. It comes in a plastic tube that you can store it in wet when finished, just rinse it clean if need be. |

Does it leave a bunch of lint and micro hair? |

| reply to pitroad01 I've had one of those for 20 years, still works great. Use it just like a chamois, get it wet, ring it out and start drying whatever needs drying. When you're done, ring it out, and store it in the original package. Mine's pretty worn out but it still does a good job. |

2 edits | reply to pitroad01 I love the thing as well.
However, my only complaint is that because of the fact that it's not plush it can easily scratch your finish if you rub it over an area that you may have forgot to clean. Also, even if you have a decent layer of wax on the car, it drags on the surface of the finish hard-core. It's hard wiping down the car because the thing doesn't want to move around on the surface easily.
And yes, it does tend to leave streaks even if you wring it out good. However, thats better then lint + streaks. Which is what you would get from just about everything else.
So yeah, it's definatly worth the money.
That said, if you really want to be drying your car like a pro get a high quality squeegee. (The difference between a high quality squeegee and a cheap one is astronomical.) Use the squeegee anywhere you can, then use the absorber on places the squeegee won't fit. -- THIS IS SPENCER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED - I HAVE JOE. RETURNING TO BASE. |

I think people fall into one of two categories; There are those that have the mindset 'I have to clean the car' and there are those that have the mindset 'I get to clean the car' ..... I don't know why some enjoy taking pride in the appearance of their cars and others don't. No right or wrong IMHO. I'm not saying anyone 'likes' the work, but justify it with the feeling of having a nice looking vehicle. |

| I see. Not that im judging anyone for doing such. Its just that this is something that has ever crossed my mind. But i do agree with the fact that some people "have" to clean and some people "get" to clean it. When i was a kid i had a neighbor that would wash her car everyday. Rain or shine. Living in the pacific northwest she spent allot of time washing in the rain. |

I am with dave, I don't wash my car....I have no garage at the moment and 2 big freakn' oak trees hovering over both cars. I'd have to wash it 3 times a week.
I use spray wax and it gets applied before drying, then wipe with cotton cloth....done, shiny, waterproof....at leat till the squirrels have there way with it. |
