| caller ID NG
I am a Cablevision subscriber
I have had caller ID from the beginning of its roll out. Last week caller ID just stopped working, when a call comes in nothing shows up on the screen. Tried unplugging the modem two time up to 30 minutes. Still no good, anyone have any suggestions?
Thank You |

| reply to shiftyeyes Are you talking about the CID on the TV or on the phone?
If it's on the TV the modem doesn't have anything to do with what displays on the TV, just so you know.
If it's on your TV like JDolan said check chan 630 on your TV and see if it's turned on. If it's turned on try turning it off an then back on.
If it doesn't work after that, then unplug the power on the cable box and plug it back on, watch the display on the box when it says power on then you can turn the box back on. If the CID still doesn't work then call TV Repair.
If it's the CID on your phone that isn't working, well you already reset the modem and that didn't fix it ... so are all your phones not showing the CID? If all of them don't show it and they are part of a phone system, like one main base and then extension or satellite phones then go to the main base and unplug the power on that base and make sure there are not lights on the base after removing the power plug.
If you have lights then look at that base for a battery, remove the cover and the battery so you have no lights and then put everything back together and plug the power back in.
If you have multiple phones and they all have the same problem and aren't part of one phone system then don't bother trouble shooting your phones.
If you have some phones that have CID displaying and some that don't it's either something with your phone or something with the phone wiring.
Now if you've reset your phones or if all your phones have this problem then ... go over to the modem and look on the back of it you're going to have a telephone wire on the back, it's either going to be plugged into Line 1, Tel 1, or Line 1/2. Remove the wire and plug it back in. Follow this wire and find where it goes ... usually to a phone jack on the wall and then unplugg it from there and plug it back in. If the phone wire goes right from the modem to a phone and still doesn't work it's either the phone that's messed up or that phone wire going form the modem to the phone. Try a different wire, try a different phone.
Now if you've reconnected the wire form the modem to the wall and it still doesn't work, then try changing that wire, or get one of your phones and connect it directly to the modem temporary, run the phone wire form the phone directly to the Line 1, Tel 1, or Line 1/2 spot on the back of the modem.
Something here should resolve you issue. |

| reply to shiftyeyes You guys are great
OK The problem was no caller ID on the TV. Did the channel 630 on-off-on. That did not do it. BUT the power unplug re plug was the ticket. The cable box did a re boot and hold after it said turn on. Turned the box on and called my self from the cell and all is well. Had to do this to too boxes!
Now I can proceed to my next honey do project.
Thanks |
