If its an upgrade disc, does it ask for your previous OS key to check if you qualify for the upgrade.

Those keys are for the OS that came with the laptops, they will not work with Windows 7.
I guess I worded my 3rd question strangly. I meant to say, will those keys be accepted if I chose the upgrade disc. I was under the impression that you had to provide your previous key if you were upgrading.. I do know they belong to the previous OS.. Sorry.

Thanks for the replys! Appreciate it!

redskydawn posted : I purchased an OEM disk (not upgrade) from NewEgg. I booted from it on my Toshiba and chose to format the disk and do a clean install. It came with the license sticker on the packaging. Of course, with OEM you get no printed manual (pretty useless anyway) and you get no support from Microsoft or your computer manufacturer (in reality, with OEM, you become the manufacturer). The install and product key was activated without problem. On my Toshiba, Windows 7 installed all the drivers I needed except for one for a built-in card reader which I downloaded online. It may be different on your HP.

The clean full, clean install worked flawlessly. Hope you have the same pleasant experience I did.

Indy Sabre posted : I think I read that if you truly want a clean install you would have to clean install vista then do the upgrade. I would think one disk would work on both since you are using your original vista OEM keys on each one.

Edit - I was partially mistaken, for detailed info read - »www.winsupersite.com/win7/clean_···edia.asp
