So, I bought a new camera the other day, just a simple point and click since I can't afford the Rebel XTI I really want at the moment. Today I was able to spend time with a local high school mascot.. a real bengal tiger. Here are some pictures I took |

| reply to thesimonsens Wonderful close-ups of what must havew been a great experience!
Something you can do if you get blur, change the ISO setting from 80 or 100 to 200 (or 400 if you must). That'll enable the camera to use a faster shutter speed, minimizing blur for motion or low light.

thesimonsens Premium join:2007-09-14 USA | how do I change the ISO on a point and click?
Also, does anyone have suggestions on how to improve the quality using photoshop? I have never edited photos in PS before and have only used it for fan artsy type manipulation |

| reply to thesimonsens Don't go above ISO200 on a Kodak period, you will not get good results at all. Stick with ISO200 or lower.
Not to shabby on the pics, seems like Kodak is getting a bit better then they used to be with noise and JPEG compression artifacts, not near as much present as in the past models unless you are using a noise reduction software or something?
If not using a NR software try »www.neatimage.com .
I am sorry, but I have to ask, if you can't afford a dSLR how do you afford Photoshop?
After NR you can try a slight USM in PS and possibly an S-Curve. -- Images are Copyrighted and use is NOT permitted. |

1 edit | I have photoshop because while living in South Dakota I was attending college for a bit for graphic design so the program was included with the tution. I actually started back up here in Ohio too but the new 9/11 GI BIll is screwed up so I had to drop out during 3rd week and am waiting until VA gets their act together so I can return, but that is how I ended up with another version of photoshop. Both versions paid for legally
Ok.. I am going to read my manual to find out how I can manually change ISO settings. Thank you for the advice |

| I had to dig to find a manual, but found where to change ISO. It's on page 30 of the extended user guide. You press the Menu button, use the up/down arrows to get to "capture + Options". The ISO settings are in that menu tree. You can set auto or ISO 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400 (ISO 6400 available for picture sizes of 3.1 MP or less.).
As [user]gemologist] said, ISO 200 is about as high as you may want to go without having to deal with noise.
BTW I found the PDF version of the "extended" user guide which has the ISO settings information' »www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acr···B_en.pdf
Plain ol' User Guide; »www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acr···B_en.pdf
I find PDFs to be handy since I can search for terms rather than flipping through the book.

Pics were taken at Massillon High School in Massillon, OH. There football field, stadium stands, training center and field house rivals MANY NFL fields! I was really impressed and shocked that I was only on a high school field |

1 edit | reply to thesimonsens Your camera most likely has several pre-programmed settings. For a moving subject see if you have a 'sports' setting. So, what are they going to do with the cute 'kitty' when she's all grown up ?

If you like wildlife and exotic animals, you may want to go down 77 then over to Cumberland to the Wilds next year - see »www.thewilds.org/

There are also auctions in Amish Country. The one at Mt. Hope is on Wednesdays. They have a lunch counter there with wonderful food. Ya gotta get in there about 11AM or so to be sure you get lunch, as they shut down when they run out of food.. See »www.experience-ohio-amish-countr···ons.html
