[iPhone] First iPhone worm discovered - Rickrolls jailbroken pho

Some Australian iPhone users who have jailbroken their phones and installed SSH leaving the default password in place are finding that a worm which changes the wallpaper to an image of 80s singer Rick Astley with the words "ikee is never going to give you up" has gotten in.

According to Sophos,
quote:
The source code is littered with comments from the author suggesting the worm has been written as an experiment. One of the comments berates affected users for not following instructions when installing SSH, because if they had changed the default password the worm would not have been able to infect them.

Although changing the wallpaper and spreading seems relatively innocuous, there's a very real risk that the worm could be put to more malicious use.

THis was mentioned in the security forum.. You dont have anything to worry about if:
You dont jailbreak your phone
You dont install SSH
if you DO JB and install SSH, CHANGE THE FLIBBIN DEFAULT PASSWORD!

The funny thing was, in early firmware versions by changing the root password you would actually break the iPhone.

I'm not sure of all the technical details, but you couldn't change the password without not having to do a restore. If I were Apple, I'd try to make it so things went back to the old way and changing the password would force a restore.

Why? It would help deter jailbraiking. If you install SSH it's always on when you reboot your phone, even if you turn it off. So the odd time you forget to turn it off, you'll get hit with a trojan that steals all your data. Now that would sure stop a lot of people from jailbreaking.

I'm not against jailbreaking, just would seem like something I'd do to deter it if I was Apple.

As of now, changing your password has no negative effects, and you should do it. Though I'm hoping Apple wises up and provides me some more humour.

Hmmm... I turn SSH off via SBSettings, and it's off. No access.

Correct, but if you reboot your iPhone SSH will be turned on, automatically.

What I'm saying is if you would perhaps forget to turn it off when you reboot, there could be some consequences.

ROFLMAO! I read about this earlier today. This is the most creative Rickroll I've seen yet. Briliant! ....and yet, bad.....

I reboot all the time... and it has always stayed off... unless the phone crashes and reboots itself.

Wouldn't help. The jailbreakers would just modify SSH to store another separate password file off to the side somewhere, and use that for SSH authentication instead of the real password file.

Some sites are now calling this the "Rick Astley virus", and that phrase is currently the 5th most searched on Yahoo right now.
