Bell disconnection fee? WTF?

I switched to TSI for my home over a month ago and Bell has charged me a $16.48 disconnection fee.

Is this one of their bogus charges?

Bell claims it's because we didn't give 30 days notice, but it took longer than that to get switched to TSI after we made the request...

So...?

Refuse to pay, take them to small claims and get the bogus charge thrown out.

Or contact the executive office. Most times they are quick to resolve the issue.

If TSI handled the switch for you they should be able to help by getting that charge dropped since you are now a TSI customer. Have you contacted TSI about this?

This happened to me as well, a year ago.

I made the request with TSI over a month before my billing date with Bell, so I would be switched as of the billing date.

I guess TSI doesn't do their work fast enough or whatever, because I got the exact same charge from Bell. I wasn't in any bundles or anything, but got the same 30 days thing as an answer.

I contacted Kevin Crulls office, and it got taken care of after threatening with the CCTS. I went to the CCTS because the reply I got after first contact was:

"The fee is appropriate, and it applies in this circumstance. It will remain on your account. Thanks."

So I not only threatened the CCTS, but I followed through. Within two days, I received a call from Kevin's Assistant, and the fee was withdrawn.

The forums are full of cases like this.
It appears that it is SOP for their billing software.
Kinda like those scams where they send out millions of letters saying you won some sweepstakes and a percentage follow up.
It's a numbers game except I suspect few people challenge Bell. Quite lucrative, in the millions.
Enough for Kevin and the team's Christmas bonus this year.
Hopefully in time a class action will be certified when what we know comes to light in the media.

He is only NOW a TSI customer. He needs to deal with Bell as it is a fee from Bell on his final BELL invoice.

People wishing to switch phone to TSI do not need to to inform Bell. TSI handles this transfer directly with Bell. If the OP canceled his phone on his own with Bell he may have to fight it.

The trick seems to be to indicate to TSI to ensure notification of changeover in Bell's BCRIS and changeover date are comfortably 30 days in advance.

FYI, I have 30 days and still got charged. After calling Bell and insisting I had contacted Bell earlier and was not informed of such charges, they reluctantly reversed it. Still waiting for the cheque, though.

Your right TSI handles the transfer but not any outstanding billing issues.

That would be like porting from Rogers to Telus and expecting Telus to deal with Rogers for the final invoice. It doesn't happen.

And if you really want to get into it. Bell cannot discuss any account details with TSI.

[/BQUOTE :

I was a TSI customer before but for DSL only.

Bell owed us some money, only decided to slap this cancelation fee wich represents exactly 50% of what they're supposed to pay us back.

Luckily I had canceled all the add-ons (voicemail, call waiting, etc.) 2 months before the switch, otherwise they would have chanrged us twice!

Correct but TSI can confirm the cancellation date to Bell. They will not however proactively engage Bell to reverse this.

OP the amount is under the threshold for small claims and the credit reporting agencies.

So write to Bell and tell them to "insert expletive here" if you don't plan on going back to them in the future.

TSI Andre answered me promptly in the direct forum and we'll deal with Kevin Krull's office to get the charge reversed.

I'll have my lawyer of a wife give them a lecture on contractual abuse, it should have some effect, hehe.

I wish more people took that stance. Especially taking Bell to small claims in some cases.

Just remember you can't win on principle if your opponent has none to start with.

I've read several reports of Bell attempting to charge "disconnection fees".

Apparently is really is just a bogus charge. I guess they figured even if one person out of ten doesn't dispute the charges, it's free money?

Fight it until it goes away.
