[SU] Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.6.2

Apple today released Mac OS X 10.6.2, the second maintenance update for Snow Leopard, via Software Update. The update brings several bug fixes, reportedly including one for a serious issue involving Guest accounts that has caused some users to lose all data from their primary user accounts.

The 10.6.2 Update is recommended for all users running Mac OS X Snow Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, including fixes for:

- an issue that might cause your system to logout unexpectedly
- a graphics distortion in Safari Top Sites
- Spotlight search results not showing Exchange contacts
- a problem that prevented authenticating as an administrative user
- issues when using NTFS and WebDAV file servers
- the reliability of menu extras
- an issue with the 4-finger swipe gesture
- an issue that causes Mail to quit unexpectedly when setting up an Exchange server
- Address Book becoming unresponsive when editing
- a problem adding images to contacts in Address Book
- an issue that prevented opening files downloaded from the Internet
- Safari plug-in reliability
- general reliability improvements for iWork, iLife, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, MobileMe, and iDisk
- an issue that caused data to be deleted when using a guest account

For detailed information on this update, please visit this website: »support.apple.com/kb/HT3874.
For information on the security content of this update, please visit: »support.apple.com/kb/HT1222.
The most recent developer build of OS X 10.6.2, Build 10C540, was seeded last week Wednesday. Rumors have pointed to the removal of support for Intel Atom processors in 10.6.2, creating issues for netbook users who have modified their devices to run OS X and are looking to upgrade their software.

Looks like Apple has not yet made the combo updater available on their website, so I'll be waiting.

I really hope (but do not expect) that this update addresses Expose issues, especially that horrible blue backlighting that surrounds a highlighted window. Also, I wish the applications in Expose maintained their relative sizes. Snow Leopard really lowered the usability of this feature, IMHO.

Ditch Adobe's bloated, security-hole ridden Reader and switch to an alternative - I recommend Foxit.

Ditto - freaked me out everytime it did that..was wondering if it was a hardware issue.

It broke GrowlMail again. Other than that no issues.

It broke Herald as well.

Other than that, like you, I haven't had any problems on my two-week-old MacBook.

On the developers site/google discussion for Growl mail, I saw reference that every update will probably break Growl Mail and that an update should be available soon once they can verify the changes with each update.

Here's an AppleScript I use instead of the GrowlMail program. Make a rule that matches every message and tell it to run this script.

compatibility with third-party AFP servers

I hope this fixes my problem.
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard last night (for good this time). My LAN speeds suck to/from my ReadyNAS via AFP. Was awesome in Leopard though.

On my MacBook Pro, it told me I had installed the OS on a non-supported system and would be disabling a whole bunch of features, and gave me a link to buy a mac.

Just kidding. It worked fine, no issues.

My Mac Pro is still not booting to Snow Leopard without me having to hold Option and double click the snow leopard boot volume (otherwise it would just boot to the boot camp volume, even though preferences showed the Snow Leopard drive as the boot volume).

This makes me unhappy.

EDIT: Changed the post, I thought it stopped doing that, but apparently it is.

Some assembly required, your mileage may vary, no pixels were harmed in the writing of this post. Brain cells, though, are a different matter. You want fries with that?

Glad this update came out. I have the guest acct. turned on for friends to use, and i'm worried every time that my data will be deleted. Now that i've updated my system, I have nothing to worry about! Whoo!

Overall, 10.6 is A+++ Rated by Me. Fast, doesn't crash (haven't had one yet), and always is speedy - doesn't slow down if you leave the computer on for a few days. WHOO!
