Redirected to a .ca site?

First let me say I'm NOT a fan of southpark, but on my dog forum someone posted a funny dog clip so I was going to take a look.

It's the first time (that I've noticed anyway) that the site saw I was in Canada and redirected me to a .ca site.
I must say this doesn't sit well

Yeah, it happens on all the shows broadcasted by The US Comedy Network.

IP Geolocation SUX. I wish there was an easy reliable way around it without getting into proxies or VPN's.

Yeh, happens a lot. Worst is when the re-direct page says 'but don't worry, you can see the same content on this great Canadian alternitive here!!!'

Usually you just get dumped to the main page, and most times the content isn't there at all anyway when you go looking.

The problem is the US networks selling out the entire Canadian rights of programs to Canadian cable/specialty channel companies.

This is why our Netflix equivalent zip.ca cannot get rights to most things for their future on demand service. It might/will compete with CTV, Global, Rogers or that stupid company called Astral Media.

The Comedy Network's online site is awful though. At work on a fast connection with no users on the weekend I still get stutters and other problems. And it doesn't play nice with adblock or firewalls/proxy.

Where's my Canadian Hulu?

Maybe ask the above mentioned companies why they refuse to license content to make such a site. Oh right... they make their money selling to Cable.

It's more like the Canadian networks have decided to each run their own shop. The Canadian networks don't get a dime from Cable for their channels. So that isn't what's stopping them.

However, there is lots of speculation that Hulu wants to charge. Oh noes!

You mean the Comedy Network makes nothing selling to Cable? HAHAHAHA
The Movie Network must make zilch too right?

Sorry but none of this has ANYTHING to do with the "Local TV" feud.

FTFY.

But, seriously, their model has been not to charge viewers for the content, but rather to use advertising. If that model is broken, so be it, they need to become specialty channels like the rest.

However, I don't think it's broken, I just think they're too shortsighted to do what European OTA providers did: Switch to a wider distribution method, ie: FTA Satellite.

Won't happen here, though, because North American corporations (and governments!) never work for the future, they work for the past.

+1

They seem to think its heretical to make more money and charge less. Not to mention possibly reaching clients outside of their traditional viewer base.

Rogers is launching their own online portal sometime this month. Might be Rogers customers only though because they mentioned it would authenticate based on the cable modem.

I hate it when sites do this. Google does it as well, unless you accept cookies. The search results are different from .ca and .com, therefor I always choose .com
It's like they're (whichever sites do this) trying to create virtual borders where no borders belong.

...and they all cry because we dl our commercial free tv shows from bitorrent. F-em....I also ran into this problem, gave up after being redirected to a Canadian site that was so poorly mapped I couldn't find anything.

So I just dl'd the show I wanted...from a nameless .it site.
