2 edits | CENZIC research: Firefox is the most vulnerable browser
CENZIC - "Vulnerabilities in Web browsers were concentrated among four popular technologies - Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Safari. The number of browser vulnerabilities in first half of 2009 comprised about 8 percent of total Web vulnerabilities. Mozilla Firefox had the largest percentage at 44 percent. What was surprising was that the Safari browser had a lot more vulnerabilities at 35 percent this time around mainly due to vulnerabilities reported in iPhone Safari. Internet Explorer was third at 15 percent and Opera with six percent of total browser vulnerabilities." »www.cenzic.com/downloads/Cenzic_···2009.pdf |

| Re: CENZIC reasearch: Firefox is the most vulnerable browser
Interesting, didn't look at the pdf and will wait for more knowledgeable to post, however I think the great advantage firefox has over others is the add-ons like adblock-plus and script blocker among others...when the security components are combined in the browser it actually makes it less vulnerable then most others. Realizing some things can be also added to the others, firefox is a little more user friendly. -- Spare computer cycles can help find answers Find A Cure!

Considering that web browser weaknesses only comprised 8% of total web vulnerabilities, I'd say ho-hum to the report. I still use Fx 1.5 as my main browser on my host XP computer (although I am using Opera more now than in the past partly because of Opera Unite) and I have not encountered any problems due to using an outdated version of Fx. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. Lars Ewe, Cenzic's chief technology officer:
quote: admitted that he uses Firefox for his personal browsing, and noted that Mozilla is "usually very fast to react to bugs."
"At the end of the day, the number of vulnerabilities is only one measurement of a browser's security," said Ewe. "We're not trying to point a finger at any one browser. I would certainly not abandon Firefox because of this."
Ewe blamed Firefox's high vulnerability count on the browser's rising popularity. "Firefox clearly has some a momentum," he said. "When you gain momentum, you're exposed more [to security researchers and hackers]."
--End-- =============================================== As long as the patches keep coming in a timely fashion from MoFo I will continue to use Fx. -- Beware the self-proclaimed advanced user. |
